Let’s play the mind game about killing the snake again. If you see a snake, an Indian, a Malay and a Chinese, who should you kill first? Well, kill the Indian first, of course, because he could twist, turn and even convince the snake that both the Malay and Chinese were evil devil and wicked witch trying to barbeque the poor snake.

 

Next to be exterminated is the Malay because he’s such a good politician that it wouldn’t take long before the snake decides to gang up with him and vote against the Chinese. With the snake and the Chinese alone, go kill the Chinese anyway. That’s because the Chinese was so freaking stupid he actually believed there’s no way the Malay would betray him.

Do we sound rather paranoid or racist? Try replacing the Malay with Azmin Ali (PKR Deputy President) and the Chinese with Lim Guan Eng (DAP Secretary-General) and the whole story makes perfect sense. As for the Indian, try 1MDB President Arul Kanda Kandasamy, terrorist in preacher clothing Zakir Naik or any UMNO Mamak politicians that you like.

 

The 11th Sarawak state election is on but before the first campaign could even start, Pakatan Harapan (Coalition of Hope) has given very little hope that they are dependable to deliver punches at the evil and corrupted Barisan Nasional (BN). Pakatan Harapan is so screwed up that they might as well give the BN walkover victories in all 82 seats contested.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters and Barisan Nasional (BN) haters definitely don’t like this, but let’s call a spade a spade, no matter how beautiful the spade is. BN has fielded candidates in all 82 seats but before they could break a sweat, 2 seats were won uncontested when nomination closed yesterday. PH practically gave away both seats without a fight.

 

With DAP and PKR (two of three component parties making up Pakatan Harapan) at each other’s throats even during the nomination day, does PM Najib Razak’s BN need any enemy? Thanks to Azmin Ali’s greediness and arrogance of power, one of his candidates was disqualified due to bankruptcy while another didn’t even bother to show up on nomination day.

We knew Azmin Ali is a devil who can’t be trusted 2 years ago, but we didn’t realize the Selangor state Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) is more venomous than a snake. By his own admission, he has confirmed instructing Sarawak PKR chief Mr Baru Bian to issue authorization letter to 5 PKR candidates for seats earlier allocated to DAP.

 

In the last 2011 Sarawak state election, PKR contested 49 seats and won 3 seats – a success rate of merely 6%. In comparison, DAP contested 15 seats and won 12 seats – a success rate of 80%. Back then, PAS was a component of Pakatan Rakyat (now defunct) coalition who contested 5 seats but lost all – a success rate of 0%.

This round, PKR is trying 40 seats (2 lost before the battle began), DAP 31 and Amanah, a new member replacing PAS, is contesting 13 seats. PAS, on the other hand is trying to break their 0% success rate 5-year ago by contesting in 11 seats. Essentially, this also means DAP and PKR are clashing in 6 seats namely Mambong, Ngemah, Simanggang, Mulu, Murum and Batu Kitang.

 

DAP claimed that it was supposed to contest in Mambong, Ngemah, Simanggang, Mulu and Murum against BN but PKR fielded their own candidate too despite agreed not to. In retaliation, DAP has fielded a candidate in Batu Kitang, a seat DAP agreed to allow PKR to contest. It appears that Mr Azmin didn’t honour the agreement and has backstabbed his own ally.

With big boss Anwar Ibrahim in prison, Azmin hasn’t only shown his arrogance and greediness, he is also acting as if he’s the untouchable de-facto opposition leader who’s willing to sabotage his own ally if his desire is not met. If PKR could only win 3 seats in 2011 with charismatic Anwar campaigning tirelessly, what chances are there now that he is in jail?

 

Obviously, PKR’s strategy is zero strategy – cast the net wide and hope for miracles. Unlike DAP who understood their limitation, Azmin’s boys chose to bite off more than they can chew. In terms of branding, DAP Sarawak was established way back in 1978, when Azmin Ali was merely 14-year-old and 20 years before PKR was born. Yet, DAP dares not contest 40 seats.

Sarawakians might be ignorant and gullible for voting BN into the state government in every election since the Independence. But they are certainly not stupid that they cannot see the message sent by internal fighting between DAP and PKR. Get real, PKR is extremely weak in Sarawak hence Azmin’s attempt to rock the boat should be viewed with highly suspicious.

 

Is Azmin trying everything in his power to boast enemy BN’s victory so that his imprisoned boss Anwar Ibrahim would rot in prison? Perhaps that’s his game plan all along. By picking a fight with ally DAP; Azmin essentially tells BN’s Najib Razak and PAS’s Hadi Awang that he’s willing to become their puppet, as long as both continue supporting him as the Selangor Chief Minister.

Besides showing he’s a man who has very little trustworthiness, Azmin has shown DAP that it’s time to prepare for the worst in the next 14th national election. DAP should prepare itself to go solo and engage in multi-cornered fights in Peninsula Malaysia by 2018. Without Anwar Ibrahim and Nik Abdul Aziz, clearly the new Pakatan Harapan isn’t working at all.

 

And if it’s true that both DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and his son Guan Eng hadn’t seen this coming from PKR, it speaks volumes about their stupidity for trusting an ex-UMNO Azmin. All UMNO politicians are trained to cheat, scam and backstab their own allies. Since this is only a state election, perhaps both PKR and DAP should be punished by Sarawakian voters.

Now that the damage has been done, DAP and PKR should just let their candidates fight it over to determine their real strength. At this hour, any negotiation would be futile, too late and a waste of time. Let the Sarawakians decide if DAP should be rewarded while PKR sent back home empty-handed, or force both DAP and PKR to eat humble pie by rewarding BN with a landslide victory.
