After more than 7-months Malaysian flight MH370 disappeared, not a single item from the ill-fated plane has been found. The cause of the mystery disappearance could be anything, including hijack for terrorism purpose. If it’s true, then somehow the country’s extremism policies contributed to the deadly event, one way or another. After all, Malaysia under UMNO-led government has been openly adopting and endorsing pro-government extremists since 2008.

The annual “Oktoberfest” was also made into a religion issue, when it was perfectly alright prior to this year. As expected, Najib administration together with buddies from Hadi Awang and his minions were entrusted to politicise the event, as if these holier-than-thou politicians were forced to consume beer themselves. Despite the fact that the event was a closed door festival, these politicians tried to prevent non-Muslims from participating, nevertheless.

Home Minister has also barred Islamic scholar Ulil Abshar Abdalla of Indonesia from entering Malaysia to speak at a public forum. Apparently, Ulil was scheduled to speak at the forum, “Religious Fundamentalism Threat in This Century”. The excuse given by Malaysian authorities – Ulil may mislead (Malaysian) Muslims with his brand of liberalism. Heck, are Malaysian Muslims’ faith so fragile that a talk at a forum would corrupt them within a couple of hours?

 

Needless to say, after more than 1,000 people, including Muslims, gathered on Sunday morning for the first-ever “I Want To Touch A Dog” event at the One Utama shopping complex, government extremist groups sprang into action. The fact that the event organizer is a Muslim, Syed Azmi Alhabshi (a pharmacist), and about half of the audiences consist of Muslims speaks volumes about the huge success of the event.

For as long as one can remember, Malaysian Muslims were made to believe (or rather brainwashed) that dog fur and saliva are unclean, and touching them are as dirty as touching sh*t. But when a 23-year-old housewife Fatimah, attended the event clad in a full black veil with only her eyes visible, you know Malaysian Muslims are slowly but surely breaking out from their cocoons of mental imprisonment.

Like kids in a candy store, Muslims who attended the event wasted no time in touching, carrying, cuddling, and learning as much as they can about dogs – humans’ most loyal pet – and the Islamic way to cleanse (sertu or samak) after touching them. For the first time in their lives, Malaysian Muslims were happily selfieing and patting dogs, contrary to the “haram” or forbidden teaching in the country’s Shafi’i school of thought.

However, former Perlis Mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, disagree that touching a dog is “haram”, pointing out that if it is considered “haram” to touch a dog because the animal is deemed unclean like excrement, then it would also be “haram” for one to handle their own excrement or their children’s when cleaning them, as well as toilet cleaners and veterinarians to do their jobs. Can someone gives this guy a raise?

 

As expected, now that the “I Want To Touch A Dog” event had received overwhelming response from Muslims, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has a new mission – “hunting and prosecuting” the organiser of the programme. Amusingly, the extreme religious agency claims the organiser might have a hidden agenda and was trying to create a new culture that could lead to insulting Islam. Funny that they didn’t claim CIA or NSA was behind this, as they usually do (*tongue-in-cheek*).

But why Muslims in this country were kept in such narrow minds that touching a dog is as sinful as touching a pig, or worse, could be more sinful than becoming an ISIL jihadist who takes pleasure killing other Muslims, as can be seen in Syria? Perhaps the answer can be found in a statement by a former Johor mufti Nooh Gadut. According to this Islamic specialist, the programme was an attempt to insult “ulama” (clerics) and religious authorities.

 

There you are – it’s all about “kowtowing” the clerics and religious authorities. Malaysian Muslims are not supposed to question these walking specialists. Ordinary Muslims cannot think on their own but must obey the clerics. And when these religious authorities tell you to jump, you can only ask how high. If you still couldn’t get the juice of it, UMNO has been using “Race, Religion and Royalty” to control and maintain their powers since independence.

And while these religious authorities tell you not to touch a dog, they could probably busy counting their ill-gotten “pool” money (*grin*) behind closed door. If dogs are sinful and cannot be made a pet, perhaps these “religious Einsteins” could train cats, rabbits, hamsters or even chickens to assist the blind Muslims, guiding them to a masjid or mosque? The truth is, the present regime is using religious authorities to prevent Muslims from any critical thinking.

 

Thanks to social medias, Malaysian Muslims have already free themselves from the first “R” (race) and are now toying with liberalisation from second “R” (religion). If the first-R could do so much damages to the present regime as can be seen from 2008 and 2013 general elections, can you imagine the impact when the second-R is also broken, completely? UMNO would be toast and it will be the end of their decades-old plundering job.

Besides, how damaging can touching a dog be, as compare to Muslims who freely betting on 4Ds, 5Ds and jackpots at gambling outlets? And why the religious authorities never question former police chief Haniff Omar’s chairmanship with casino company Genting? There’re also tons of UMNO-Muslims who are sitting on boards of directors of sinful companies such as Guinness Anchor Berhad, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad, Magnum Berhad, Berjaya Sports Toto Berhad and the list goes on.
