There’s good news and bad news for Russia and China. First, the bad news – U.S. President Donald Trump has declared both Russians and Chinese enemy of the state. Now, the good news – despite calling both communist nations “rival powers”, Trump said the U.S. will continue to partner with them. Confusing, huh? Why can’t the Yankees make up their mind?

In his first official national security strategy, Trump’s desire to have the best of both worlds couldn’t be any clearer. Obviously trying to convince Americans that he’s the best U.S. president money can buy, Trump reveals his 4 goals: to protect Americans and their homeland, to promote national prosperity, to preserve “peace through strength” and to advance American influence.

Published on Monday, the strategy document openly proclaims that Russia and China were trying to “challenge American power, influence and interests” and “erode American security and prosperity”. In the same breath, Trump took a jab at past U.S. leaders whom he accused of having failed to effectively protect U.S. interests in areas such as trade, defence and counter-terrorism.

Trump said – “For many years, our citizens watched as Washington politicians presided over one disappointment after another. Our leaders in Washington negotiated disastrous trade deals that brought massive profits to many foreign nations but sent thousands of American factories and millions of American jobs to those other countries.”

With approval rating tumbling like a rock before finally climbs to 42%, thanks to bullish stock market and hence economic optimism, the 56-page document – on the drawing board for a year – is Donald Trump’s latest attempt to put his campaign promises and policy beliefs into a coherent strategy. Still, with his impulsive behaviour, it’s hard to predict how closely the sexy strategy will be followed.

Against enemy Russia, Trump blames Kremlin of interfering in the domestic political affairs of countries globally, but stopped short of accusing Moscow of meddling in the 2016 U.S. election. The document said – “Through modernized forms of subversive tactics, Russia interferes in the domestic political affairs of countries around the world.”

However, Trump also bragged that he received a call from Putin on Sunday to thank him for providing U.S. intelligence that helped thwart a bomb attack in the Russian city of St. Petersburg. Interestingly, Trump called Russian President Vladimir Putin last week to thank him for acknowledging the strong economic performance of the United States.

Against rival China, Trump criticises Beijing’s moves in the South China Sea, saying – “China’s efforts to build and militarise outposts in the South China Sea endanger the free flow of trade, threaten the sovereignty of other nations, and undermine regional stability.” Trump administration warned that intellectual property theft by China is a national security problem.

Nevertheless, Trump did not (or rather dared not), call China a “strategic competitor”, despite acknowledging that the Chinese seek “to challenge American influence, values, and wealth.” Accusing China of unfair trade practices that put the U.S. at a disadvantage, the document says – “Every year, competitors such as China steal U.S. intellectual property valued at hundreds of billions of dollars.”

In a nutshell, the Trump administration lumps together China and Russia as competitors seeking to challenge U.S. power and erode its security and prosperity. But what is so wrong for the Chinese and Russians doing what the Americans have been doing all this while? Is it the U.S. birthright to be the only powerful and rich nation while other countries can’t?

In fairness, every country in the world has the same rights and desires as the U.S. – protecting homeland, promoting national prosperity, preserving “peace through military strength” and advancing influence. But Trump administration isn’t happy as China and Russia narrow the gap in their supremacy – economically and militarily – against the U.S.

Trump believes the globe revolves around United States of America. He thinks China cannot be allowed to be more prosperous than the U.S. The president also thinks Russia should not be allowed to be more powerful than the U.S. Both the Chinese and the Russians must remain at second place – forever. The greatness of America, as far as Trump is concerned, shouldn’t be challenged.

The U.S. president also claimed China and Russia are developing “advanced weapons and capabilities” which could threaten the U.S.’ “critical infrastructure and our command and control architecture”. Does Trump expect the world to be forever dumb and buy inferior weapons from the U.S.? So, only the U.S. can develop and innovate but not the Chinese or the Russians?

The funny thing is this – when the Chinese do not invent and develop, they are being accused of stealing and copying U.S. Intellectual Property (IP). But when they innovate and develop new products, they are being called the enemy of the state. Seriously, must China and Russia get U.S. permission on what can or cannot be developed?

And China cannot be allowed to strengthen its influence in the South China Sea, which is about 1,000 miles from its shores, but the U.S. can freely dominate the world – nearly 800 military bases in more than 70 countries – despite them being tens of thousands of miles away? Hey, it’s not the Chinese or the Russians’ fault that Americans suddenly realize their competitors are in their backyard.

In case Donald Trump hasn’t been properly advised, China and Russia don’t have to do anything to erode the America’s influence, values and wealth. The U.S. endless war in the Middle East, partnership with Saudi’s barbaric Wahhabism, complacency, arrogance and greedy U.S. corporations, among others, are the factors America is losing its grip on the trophy.

In reality, the liberals – Democrats, Republicans or mainstream news media – are doing an excellent job driving the country to disaster. Therefore, Trump should stop crying, whining and bitching about Russia and China. If the evil communists are such a devil, he should not have had brought his granddaughter Arabella to Beijing trying to suck up to President Xi Jinping.

Trump must declare a trade war with China, since he believes the Chinese have been stealing from the Americans. The U.S. must also invade Russia, since Moscow has been weakening the credibility of America’s commitment to Europe. After all, Putin had invaded Georgia and Ukraine, hadn’t he? Trump has to make up his mind – are they friends or foes?
