After Fatboy Kim successful fired an intermediate-range missile – for the second time – over Japan reaching the distance of 3,700 kilometres (2,300 miles) and a maximum height of 770 kilometres (478 miles), it was pretty much game over. Guam is now within range of a North Korean missile strike. If there was a tiny window of a pre-emptive strike, that window is effectively closed now.
Friday should be the right moment President Donald Trump opened his big mouth to say something useful to calm the world community, especially his allies Japan and South Korea, in line with his capacity as the leader of the free world. But he couldn’t because Mr. Trump has nothing more left to offer that could scare the shit out of Mr. Kim.
As revealed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, unlike Arab leaders Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi, it’s impossible to scare Kim Jong-un into submission, let alone trick him to give-up the nuclear weapon programme. That’s why there were neither “fire and fury” nor “begging for war” provocations from U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
The toughest reaction came from U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who demanded that China and Russia take “direct actions” against Pyongyang, saying – “China and Russia must indicate their intolerance for these reckless missile launches by taking direct actions of their own.” However, China wasn’t impressed with Tillerson’s irresponsible and threatening statement.
It appears that Donald Trump isn’t much different from Hillary Clinton. Like Clinton, Trump administration appears to be blaming everyone and everything under the Sun – except themselves for the North Korea crisis. So, on the same day Pyongyang fired the historical missile over Japan, Beijing launched its own missile of lecture against Washington.
China Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying lectured the U.S. – “The nature of the North Korea nuclear problem is a security issue. The core of it is the conflict between the U.S. and North Korea. The focus of the conflict is not China. The cause of escalating tensions is not China and the key to the problem is also not China.”
It was an insult that Beijing sent a junior official to give Washington some words of wisdom. Hua Chunying added – “Parties who are directly involved should do their duty and any attempts to push away the problem is irresponsible.” Essentially, China was lecturing the U.S. that instead of whining and blaming, the Americans should start taking responsibility.
Beijing’s message to Washington, in case they hadn’t the slightest clue, was that only the U.S. can solve the North Korea nuclear crisis as the root of the problem was a conflict between Washington and Pyongyang. Kim has consistently accused America as the devil and enemy of North Korea who continuously provokes the hermit kingdom.
To make the whole episode dramatic, spokeswoman Hua said that China had “made tremendous sacrifices and paid a heavy price” by implementing sanctions against North Korea, something that the Chinese could choose not to do since the crisis does not involve China at all. Therefore, China’s determination and sincerity should not be doubted by the U.S. from the beginning.
Yet, every time Kim Jong-un launches a missile or tests a nuclear bomb, the U.S. would start calling and blaming the Chinese, as if it was the China’s fault that U.S. and South Korea continues conducting military exercises in the Korean Peninsula, and in the process provokes the North Korea who believes the U.S.-South Korea was preparing to attack the North.
The worse part was despite all the helps given by the Chinese, the arrogant U.S. military would send their aircraft carrier or destroyer to South China Sea in attempts to intimidate China. Unless Beijing is retarded, there’s very little reason why the Chinese should become Washington’s errand boy in the Korean Crisis.
China, and even Russia, has said all along that more sanctions would not help the situation. Excessive sanctions against North Korea are not only overkill but also pushes Kim regime against the wall, hence, resulting in the fat boy fighting for his survival. Professor Wang Sheng said the latest statement from Beijing means China was not prepared to take any further action at this stage.
In fact, after the successful firing of the second Hwasong-12 over Japan, scores of Chinese netizens actually applauded and cheered for North Korea. Some took satisfaction that the Japanese, still remembered for their Imperial Japanese Army’s brutality during the World War II, are now tasting their own past medicine.
Cui Tiankai, China’s Ambassador to Washington, has called on the United States to refrain from making further threats over North Korea. The ambassador said instead of doing unproductive things such as issuing empty rhetoric threats again, the U.S. should do more to find effective ways to resume dialogue and negotiation.
China fought alongside North Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War, in which Chinese leader Mao Zedong lost his eldest son. In the latest Korean Crisis, China has given the ultimatum – “If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so.”
Ambassador Cui also warned Trump administration in what appears to be a pre-emptive trade-war declaration – “Workers at U.S. airplane factories, farmers growing soybeans, companies that sell smartphones to China, manufacturers that enjoy large market shares in China, companies in the service sector that have gained trade surplus in China, U.S. states that engage in robust trade with China would all stand against it.”
With China’s refusal to take further instruction from the U.S., while Kremlin is at Cold War 2 with Washington, the bullying days of the U.S. has been stopped at the doorstep of Chubby Kim Jong-un. The day of whining, crying and bitching is over. It’s time the so-called tough President Trump takes responsibility and fixes his own problems. He should start negotiating with Kim, even if it means losing face.
