Hasanah Abdul Hamid, former director-general of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) has lodged a police report over a letter she sent to the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency. Congratulation! The Bond girl has admitted to the authenticity of the CIA letter, the same way her boss ex-PM Najib Razak did.

The disgraced Hasanah has also declared that the letter, written and sent just 5 days before the May 9 general election, had nothing to do with scandal-plagued Najib Razak. Now, while her loyalty is commendable, her eagerness to protect the former prime minister is overkill. The script for this drama is clearly poorly written. She should deny being the author of the CIA letter.

The SOP (standard operating procedure) of the previous Barisan Nasional coalition government was to deny every accusation and allegation under the Sun. Miss Moneypenny Hasanah should do the same, and challenge the authenticity of the CIA letter. Najib has said he was unaware of the letter and did not instruct Ms Hasanah to write it.

Hasanah’s lawyer Shaharudin Ali, has also cleared whatever doubt left about the authenticity of the letter – saying the confidential letter dated May 4 was genuine but it was just a routine “operational level” matter between the two intelligence agencies. Did this half-past-six lawyer try to insult the intelligence of the people and all the intelligence agencies around the world?

How the letter could be remotely considered as a routine operational task when the objective was to solicit for U.S. support for the Najib regime even if it wins the election “by a simple majority or just one seat”? It was like saying it was just a routine job for Donald Trump to write to Vladimir Putin seeking for Russia support for Trump even if he wins the 2016 Presidential Election by one vote.

Hasanah claimed the contents of the letter were “nothing unusual” and it was not a letter that could be described as a form of treason because the mandate of the MEIO is to protect national security. Was she trying to say the Agong (King) was retarded and incapable of deciding that her boss – Najib Razak – should be sworn in as prime minister in the event he wins by a simple majority or just one seat?

Hasanah Abdul Hamid – MEIO Director General - Letter to CIA

In her haste to wriggle out of the scandal, Hasanah and her lawyers try to divert the attention from her treasonous and treacherous act to something else. Yes, she is trying to make it look like a critical breach of national security instead. The traitor wants the police to investigate the whistle-blower because the letter falls under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

One must wonder why should a letter written and sent by the head of a spy be categorised under top-secret OSA if it was just a routine “operational level” matter with CIA. Why does this sound so familiar? Ahh, the disgraceful Najib Razak had also hidden the 1MDB audit report from the public under the OSA too, until it was finally declassified after his regime collapsed on May 9.

Hasanah, in her desperate attempt to blame the whistle-blower, claimed the leak had destroyed the trust which foreign intelligence agencies had in MEIO and jeopardised ties between the spy agency and its foreign counterparts. Was she trying to accuse the CIA of having agreed to her proposal of interfering in the sovereignty of Malaysia?

Heck, she was so despicable that she claims the morale of MEIO officers and agents has also been affected by the leak. How does she know that the letter wasn’t actually leaked by her own agents who despise her for selling the country’s sovereignty? Her lawyer was so dumb as to reveal that MEIO employs over 1,000 personnel worldwide.

Lawyer Shaharudin Ali said – “I am not authorised to say how many agents, officers and operatives are maintained by the agency, but I can tell you its well over 1,000 all over the world, and it’s important that such a leak should not have happened.” Such disclosure, a no-no in the spy business, would make American CIA and Russian FSB fall down their chair laughing.

Perhaps Hasanah has forgotten that his boss Najib isn’t the sheriff anymore. Hiding under OSA will only work if the old government still walk the corridor of powers. Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla, a lawyer of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, however, disagreed with Hasanah’s claim that such leaks are against the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA).

Mr. Haniff said police investigation into who leaked the letter is of secondary importance because the Official Secrets Act is not designed to hide commission of crime – “The OSA is to protect the interest of the state on confidential information in the interest of the country. Not in the interest of the government.”

Disagreeing with Hasanah’s lawyer, Haniff said – “By Hasanah admitting the contents of the letter, she can be investigated under Section 124C or worse still, treason. She should be remanded by the authorities and investigated upon as to who is directly behind in giving instructions to writing the contents of the letter. If there is enough evidence, charge her or those behind her in writing the letter.”

If she’s lucky, Hasanah could be looking at 15 years’ imprisonment if found guilty under Section 124C of the Penal Code. She could also be charged under Section 121, which says – “Whoever wages war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or against any of the Rulers or Yang di-Pertua Negeri, or attempts to wage such war, or abets the waging of such war, shall be punished with death or imprisonment for life.

Treason Letter to CIA - Najib Razak and Hasanah Abdul Hamid

Obviously, Hasanah Abdul Hamid is one dumb intelligence chief. She should not have had admitted to the letter in the first place. She could easily claim the letter was a fake and play dumb. The U.S.’ CIA will definitely deny any knowledge whatsoever over the letter soliciting for support. It would be a challenge for Mahathir administration to prove that she was the author.
