There were 1.6 billion Muslims in the world as of 2010 – roughly 23% of the global population – according to Pew Research Centre’s estimation. That’s about 600-million short of 2.2 billion Christians – made up 31% of the planet population. However, Islam is the fastest-growing religion and it’s a matter of time before they catch up.
The regional migration of Muslims is helping the growth of Islam to the West at mind-boggling rate. And if current demographic trends continue, Islam is on its way to become the world’s No. 1 religion by 2050. That’s only 33 years away. Thanks to the popularity and brutality of terror group ISIS, many thought Middle East and North Africa is the centre of Muslim population.
In reality, those Muslims in the Middle East and North Africa region constitutes to only 20% of the world’s Muslims. A majority of the Muslims globally (62%) actually live in the Asia-Pacific region. Indonesia is currently the country with the world’s largest Muslim population – a staggering 200-million Muslims. Guess which country is set to overtake Indonesia by 2050.
Pew Research Centre estimates that India, a majority-Hindu country, will take the throne from Indonesia as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population – more than 300-million Muslims by 2050. That means the 172-million Muslims in India now will outgrow not only 200-million Muslim Indonesians but also the 178-million Muslim Pakistanis by 2050.
The growth of Islam doesn’t affect the Asia-Pacific region only. In Europe, Muslim population is also growing at an alarming rate. The prediction is 10% of all Europeans will be Muslims by 2050. Of course, if Chancellor Angela Merkel wins her fourth term and decides to import millions more Muslim refugees / migrants into Germany, the number could grow even faster.
United States had 3.3-million Muslims as of 2015 – about 1% of the country’s population. A staggering 63% of American Muslims are actually immigrants. By 2050, Muslims will make up 2.1% of the U.S. population, surpassing even the Jews. Muslim immigrants who were granted green cards (permanent residency status) increased from about 5% in 1992 to roughly 10% in 2012 alone.
There’re two major factors which are contributing to the rapid growth of Islam. First, Muslims have more children than members of other religious groups. Breeding like a rabbit, each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, compared with 2.3 for all other groups combined around the world.
Second, because Muslims are also the youngest (median age of 23-years-old in 2010) of all major religious groups, they form a larger share that will begin having children. As a booster, Muslims’ high fertility rates act like steroid – fuelling Muslim population growth. But how does Americans feel about Muslims at their backyard?
Thanks to former President Barack Hussein Obama and the liberal Democrats, not to mention globalist George Soros, the views toward Muslims are now warmer than they were a few years ago. Still, Americans view more warmly the seven other religious groups – Jews, Catholics, mainline Protestants, evangelical Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and Mormons.
Republicans, however, are more likely than Democrats to say they are very concerned about extremism in the name of Islam around the world (67% vs. 40%) and in the U.S. (64% vs. 30%). A December 2016 survey also found that more Republicans than Democrats say Islam is likelier than other religions to encourage violence among its believers (70% vs. 26% of Democrats).
In Europe, Hungary leads with 72% Hungarians have unfavourable view of Muslims in their country, follows by Italy (69%), Poland (66%), Greece (65%) and Spain (50%). United Kingdom, on the other hand, leads the opposite side with only 28% Britons having unfavourable view, follows by Germany and France (29%).
But what do Muslims think of Westerners? A 2011 survey across seven Muslim-majority countries found they view Westerners as selfish (68%). Other negative views include violent (66%), greedy (64%), immoral (61%), arrogant (57%), and fanatical (53%). Only 33% Muslims view Westerners as honest while 31% as tolerant and 29% generous.
Despite so many complaints against Westerners, surprisingly, Muslims are fighting tooth and nail to enter America and Europe. That’s because they’re attracted to welfare and benefits available – including free cash, subsidized or free housing, free education, state-funded health care, dental care, maternity care and whatnot.
