Depending on which century you were born, you may see China as a great innovator, or merely a great copycat. Paper, gunpowder, printing and compass are four ancient inventions by Chinese people that have had a huge impact on the entire world. If only they have had put them into good use, they could have had conquered the whole world.

 

Now that the dragon has awoken, the nation has turned into a great copycat, earning an international reputation at cloning products ranging from designer handbags such as LV Louis Vuitton and the latest smartphones such as iPhone to movies and alcoholic beverages. Heck, they even clone a fake Apple Store, counterfeit KFC restaurants, imitate IKEA outlet and whatnot.

They have already built the entire replica of European towns. And they didn’t think twice about cloning a bank at their backyard whenever they feel like scamming customers of hundreds of millions of Yuan. After insulted by Russian and being ridiculed by presidential candidate Donald Trump in the Syrian War, Obama administration was forced to do some face savings.

 

And President Obama has found a victim to bully – China. With Obama’s approval, the U.S. Navy sent the guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen within 12 nautical miles of islands built by China in the South China Sea. The Pentagon is obviously provoking China. However, it has no intention to launch a military clash with China, not that Obama would dare in the first place.

If the U.S. genuinely wanted to stop China from its island-building project, they would have had done so from the beginning, not now when the Chinese is almost finish with it. Obama wants to display its presence, militarily, so that Americans at home could “feel” how great United States still is, under Barack Obama.

 

China responded by warning and regarded the U.S. latest manoeuvres as a “threat to China’s sovereignty”. According to the Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece the Global Times, Beijing is not frightened to fight a war with the US in the region, and is determined to safeguard its national interests and dignity.

The statement further said – “Beijing ought to carry out anti-harassment operations. We should first track the US warships. If they, instead of passing by, stop for further actions, it is necessary for us to launch electronic interventions, and even send out warships, lock them by fire-control radar and fly over the US vessels.”

 

Nevertheless, Beijing has remained calm and predicts the U.S. destroyer would leave eventually after flexing its muscle. But the latest show-off stunt by Obama is quite silly and stupid because it provides Beijing with an excuse to militarize their new man-made islands, under the pretext that their interest is now under U.S. threats.

Experts have warned for a very long time that an accident collision between aircraft, similar to a 2001 incident, could start a war between the two superpowers. Earlier this year, billionaire investor George Soros cautioned that Beijing may see fit to rally its population around an external threat in order to divert attention from economic downturn.

 

Now that Japan, China’s traditional war enemy, is allowed military role outside of its country and the latest harassment by the U.S. destroyer, it would be easier for Beijing to rally its people against these threats. Soros predicted that in an event of a conflict with the U.S., China will align itself with Russia both politically and militarily.

So, the billion dollar question is – was China bluffing when it says it isn’t afraid to fight a war with the US in the region? Obviously not. The Chinese cyber troopers have been kicking American butts in the cyber wars, hacking and stealing information. The Russian submarines have been searching and identifying which undersea U.S. cables to cut during a war.

 

Well, if a war is declared, the U.S. military will be facing something quite interesting. Not only the U.S. will be looking at American weapon designs and technology that have been stolen and replicated by the Chinese, they’ve to deal with Russian technology because apparently the Chinese has also cloned them successfully (*grin*).

The Chinese Shenyang J-11B fighter looks identical to the Russian Sukhoi Su-27, after China bought two dozen of the fighters but later negotiated for a license to assemble additional planes domestically using key components imported from Russia. The Chinese was so good at reverse-engineering Russian weapons that Russia felt threatened and does not sell their most advanced systems to China anymore.

China also owns Shenyang J-15 Flying Shark, which is copies of Russian Su-33, not to mention Antonov An-12 Cub transport aircraft’s copy – Shaanxi Y-9 transport aircraft. Then there’s Chinese PLZ-05 Self-Propelled Howitzer being carbon-copy of Russian’s 2S19 Msta-S Self-Propelled Howitzer.

 

PHL03 multiple rocket launcher is another copy of Russian’s BM-30 Smerch “Whirlwind” multiple rocket launcher, while Russian BMP-1 amphibious infantry fighting vehicle is seeing twins in Chinese WZ-501 amphibious infantry fighting vehicle.

 

But it didn’t stop there. In late 2014, they revealed Shenyang J-31 which is a rip off from U.S. Lockheed Martin F-35B Lighting II fighter. The Chinese also copies U.S. Humvee Light Truck and called it Dongfeng EQ2050 Brave Soldier. Heck, they even copy U.S. FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile and rebrand it as Hongjian-12 Red Arrow anti-tank missile.

In the unmanned military gadgets, Northrop Grumman X-47B Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) has its fair share of pirated copy named Lijian Sharp Sword UCAV. Perhaps U.S. should take comfort that its MQ-1 Predator drone may finally meet its long lost brother Chengdu Wing Loong “Pterodactyl” drones.

The U.S. may think these clone copies are inferior and lack the quality and capabilities of the originals because they were untested. But at a fraction of the price, China could have secretly produce a large quantity of them, more than what the America possess. The question is: does Obama wish to test China’s capability by going to war with the copycat?
