For more than a decade since the September 11 attacks, Americans have been asking if it was their own government who actually staged the brutal mass murders, or it was sponsored and financed by their so-called best friend half way around the world – Saudi Arabia. Until the secrets are unveiled, the blame is on terrorist.
Although Osama bin Laden, the founder of al-Qaeda, the organization that claimed responsibility for the September 11, 2011 attacks, was killed by American Navy SEAL teams more than four years ago, questions are still being asked about the real mastermind. Perhaps the answers could be found in 28 black-out pages.
The 2002 US Senate report into the 9/11 attacks were classified on the orders of former president George W. Bush, leading to tons of conspiracy theories, not to mention speculations about Saudi’s involvement. Now, Rand Paul, the Republican senator from Kentucky who has been criticising NSA for spying, is pressuring Obama to declassify the papers.
Many believe Saudi Arabia had funded the 9/11 attacks, and their involvement was deliberately covered up by then Bush and now Obama administrations, to protect US-Saudi relations. Recently, author and investigative journalist Seymour M. Hersh dropped a bombshell revealing how Pakistan’s military had actually been holding Osama prisoner for 5-years before his killing.
And part of the reasons Pakistan secretly “protect” Osama was because Saudi government wouldn’t want him to be found by the US. Earlier this year, fresh testimony from Zacarias Moussaoui, the “twentieth hijacker” in the 9/11 attacks, exposed that senior members of the Saudi royal family were major al-Qaeda donors and were intimately involved with Osama bin Laden’s terror network.
But why on earth America’s buddy Saudi would do such a cruel thing of sponsoring terrorist group al-Qaeda in the first place? As Saudi Arabian intelligence chief Prince Turki al-Faisal once quoted “Saudi and America were best friends in the Arab World for 50 years”. So, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United States of America are no longer best friends today.
The friendship had actually ended in 1973, the year when U.S. military supported Israel in its war with Egypt and Syria. Saudi-Arabian-led oil producers retaliated by imposing an embargo against the U.S. As a result, oil prices in the U.S. quadrupled, with price of oil skyrocketing from US$3 per barrel to almost US$12.
With America’s economy in total chaos, Saudi Arabia was grinning from ear to ear. The Saudis were extremely happy because they had successfully taught Americans a lesson. The White House, with tail between legs, started negotiations with the kingdom to end the embargo and began putting pressure on Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights and the Sinai.
When the oil price hit more than US$120 a barrel in 2008, then Bush administration appealed to Saudi Arabia to increase production in order to bring down the price. The Saudis arrogantly rejected such request. At the mercy of Saudis black oil, the U.S. could do nothing but to look the other way, even with the knowledge that the kingdom has the worst human rights in the world.
Saudi Arabia was so wealthy that they didn’t know how to spend their petrodollar, so much so that they started sponsoring Taliban and of course, al-Qaeda. Without Saudis petrodollar, terrorism couldn’t survive, let alone flourishes as can be seen in today’s ISIS, the most brutal terror group once related to al-Qaeda.
As karma goes, the kingdom of Saudi is building a 600-mile “Great Wall” to keep ISIS out. Still, the crazy ISIS group succeeded in carrying two suicide attacks on Shiite mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia. So, did the “American Elite Government” deliberately stay out of the Middle Eastern instability and let ISIS creates as much chaos as they like?
Make no mistake about it. The Saudis are still trying to control America, the same way they did 40-years ago. Besides punishing Iran, they hope to show their powers using their black gold. But unlike the vulnerable America 40-years ago, the U.S. today is an energy superpower, passing Russia as the world’s biggest producer of oil and natural gas.
Perhaps it’s true that Saudi Arabia has been naughty all these while. They’ve been using oil as the economic weapon in dictating U.S. certain foreign policies. At the same time, they’ve been using petrodollar in terrorizing not only western countries, but also Middle Eastern countries which did not subscribe to their dictatorship.
The day the 28 black-out pages are declassified will be the day United States “officially” tells the world Saudi is not their best friend anymore. But why the rush, when the fun has just begun. With ISIS at Saudi’s backyard and the kingdom busy pumping up oil production to cause prices to fall, desperately preserve their market share and undermine U.S. shale oil production, it’s time for more popcorn and Coke.
