Mahathir Mohamad must be both amused and insulted after former prime minister Najib claimed in a speech to UMNO delegates on July 12 that Lim Kit Siang had presented the idea of setting up a new party – PPBM (Bersatu) – to Dr Mahathir prior to 14th General Election. The co-called evil scheme was to divide the UMNO-Malay, which actually worked after the stunning defeat of Najib regime.

 

PM Mahathir, who celebrated his 94th birthday about a week ago, was so amused with Najib’s desperate attempt to drive wedges between ethnic Malay and ethnic Chinese that the world’s oldest prime minister suggested Najib should go to Tanjung Rambutan (psychiatric institution) for believing DAP supremo Lim was the mastermind in the formation of Bersatu.

 

Of course, at the same time, Mahathir was also insulted. Known as the master strategist who specialises in “divide and conquer” strategy during his first stint as premier for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, did he really need an advice from Lim on how to divide UMNO prior to the May 9, 2018 general election? Clearly, it was an insult to Mahathir’s intelligence.

How could Mahathir not know how to split UMNO-Malay by creating a new party (PPBM) but upon crowning as the 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia, he skillfully divided ally PKR party – by appointing Azmin Ali, PM-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim’s rival, as Economic Affairs Minister? Perhaps Najib should also claim that Lim had whispered into Mahathir’s ear about the promotion of Mr. Azmin.

 

If Uncle Lim was the mastermind who brilliantly brought down UMNO, the once invincible Malay nationalist party which had ruled the land for 61 years since independence in 1957, then he must also be the same man responsible for the splitting PAS Islamist party too. He must have had also whispered into the ear of Mohamad “Mat” Sabu to quit PAS and set up Amanah.

 

In actual fact, if Lim Kit Siang was such a genius as Najib Razak wanted him to be, the “divide and rule” story did not end with the creation of Mahathir’s party PPBM in 2016. The Chinaman must be the same brilliant strategist who had advised Anwar Ibrahim to set up People’s Justice Party, PKR (formerly National Justice Party) in 1998 after Mahathir sacked him.

Heck, Uncle Lim must also be the same smart politician who had told Tengku Razaleigh to form “Team B” faction and challenged Mahathir’s “Team A” for the control of UMNO during the 1987-1988 internal crisis (that’s 30 years ago). And upon the defeat of Razaleigh, Lim must have had advised Mahathir to form UMNO 2.0 (UMNO Baru) to kill off the old UMNO 1.0.

 

At the same time after the defeat of Razaleigh, Lim most likely was the man who told him to set up now-defunct Parti Melayu Semangat 46 to challenge Mahathir’s newly formed UMNO Baru. Yet, curiously, as a brilliant tactician and strategist who was supposedly cleverer than Mahathir, Lim had never been able to defeat his bitter enemy Mahathir – not even once – throughout his political life since 1966.

 

Get real, the Chinese politician is no match to the cunning Malay politician called Mahathir Mohamad. Are you trying to say Lim suddenly became super genius in 2016 at the age of 75 and proposed the setting up of a new party called PPBM, an incredible brilliant idea that not even Mahathir had given a thought? Najib should stop insulting Malays intelligence.

Najib and his supporters talked as if the Malay leaders, especially one like Mahathir, cannot think on their own. If Mahathir was as dumb as Najib would like everyone to believe, exactly how could the PM brilliantly control the 222-seat Parliament despite his own party winning only 13 seats? We’re talking about Mahathir, the man who has never been defeated – not even once.

 

To say Mahathir needed Lim Kit Siang to tell him how to divide UMNO-Malay is as good as saying that Colonel Sanders needed advice from Donald Trump how to make delicious fried chicken. The old man has been pitting not only the Malays against each other, but also the Chinese for 22 years from 1981 to 2003. Divide and rule was Mahathir’s breakfast, mind you.

 

Najib’s informant, Hamidah Osman, was herself a racist and a snake oil saleswoman who would sell her own daughter for the right price. A former Bersatu vice-president for less than a year, she had jumped ship from UMNO to the Mahathir’s party in 2016. She jumped again and is now the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Negara (Perkasa) vice-president, the party formed by infamous racist Ibrahim Ali.

Interestingly, Hamidah was sacked by Najib in 2015 for criticising his leadership. Comically, she conveniently fed his former boss the bull story about Lim being the mastermind after Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor attended her daughter’s wedding. Hamidah is the same racist UMNO-Malay woman who suggested in 2009 that between a snake and an Indian man, the Indian chap should be killed first.

 

But it’s not hard to understand why UMNO-Malay continues to use Chinese-majority DAP, now a component of Mahathir government, as a punching bag. Najib, currently facing 42 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), money laundering and abuse of power, desperately needs to divert the Malay community’s attention from his shameless thievery.

 

His sudden return to UMNO as chief advisor did not receive the overwhelming cheers and supports he had anticipated. Instead, Najib was slammed by warlords Khairy Jamaluddin and Nazri Aziz, arguably one of the former premier’s biggest cheerleader before his downfall last May. Hence, the distraction to justify his comeback to the same party he had led to its spectacular loss.

More importantly, Najib wanted the gullible Malays to forget all the stealing and plundering he had done, and channelled the hatred towards the Chinese instead – blaming the non-Malay community as the source of UMNO’s humiliating defeat. As far as the crooked Najib is concerned, it’s never his fault. Did he not just blame his biggest bootlicker Nazri Aziz for losing the Chinese support?

 

However, Mr. Lim has revealed that on March 4, 2016, the same day Hamidah claimed the proposal was mooted during a meeting at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya, the DAP leader was not aware of such meeting, let alone attended it. On that day, Lim actually attended a public gathering with Mahathir to sign and launch the People’s Declaration.

 

In reality, the Malay didn’t lose power, let alone being toppled by DAP. The UMNO-Malay has been replaced by PPBM-Malay. Najib lost to Mahathir – both are Malay Muslims. But if serial liar Najib Razak still insists Lim Kit Siang was the mastermind, the DAP supremo should happily accept the trophy. It shows Najib has gone cuckoo after losing to a 77-year-old Chinese uncle with no power and wealth.
