Fourth of July, the Independence Day of United States of America, was specifically chosen by notorious Kim Jong-un as the day to deliver Donald Trump a special gift – a rocket in the form of ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile). But who can blame the North Korean dictator for grinning from ear to ear after a successful test of the disastrous missile?

It wasn’t Kim who promised that an ICBM test “won’t happen!” It was Trump who promised that! Regardless whether Trump was ill-advised by his band of incompetent military advisor, or it was the arrogant Trump who made the over-confident declaration, America has “egg on their face” after Kim lobbed a “mini ICBM” which landed in Japanese waters.

North Korea ICBM Missile Testing - Kim Jong-un

North Korea said the missile – Hwasong-14 – flew on a steep trajectory, going 2,800 kilometres (1,741 miles) above the Earth, before splashing down in the Sea of Japan / East Sea 930 kilometres (578 miles) from its launch site. Later, Kim Jong-Un declared the test completed his country’s strategic weapons capability that includes atomic and hydrogen bombs and ICBM.

Initially, the U.S. refused to acknowledge the hermit kingdom’s claim. Analysts, however, has a different opinion and said if the missile were fired on a standard, flatter trajectory it would be capable of reaching Alaska or Hawaii. Subsequently, the U.S. confirmed that the missile was indeed an ICBM, and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called it a “new escalation of the threat” to the U.S.

North Korea ICBM Missile Testing - Kim Jong-un and Official Watching

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley has requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting. But how could President Trump be so wrong in his projection of the North Korean’s threat? More importantly, what more can the Security Council do that hasn’t been already done? Will the U.S. go to war against any country, including China and Russia, for continuously trading with North Korea?

Nobody is saying Kim Jong-un is a nice guy. He’s a brutal dictator – with nuclear weapon. But so are Saudi’s King Salman, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan, China’s President Xi Jinping, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and even Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Saudi King Salman Sucking Up to US President Trump

There are plenty of other dictators too. So is America against North Korea for its dictatorship or for its possession of nuclear weapon (and now the ICBM to deliver its payload)? It appears that America only goes ballistic against a regime that possessed nuclear weapon but would gladly hug and kiss a regime that don’t but openly oppress and suppress their people.

Make no mistake about it. North Korean Kim Jong-un is merely targeting the U.S. due to the superpower’s aggression in the region. Heck, you don’t hear any European Union leaders foaming at the mouth condemning the hermit kingdom after the mini-ICBM rocket test, do you? The fact is America cannot accept a new nuclear-powered nation challenging its dominance.

President Donald Trump Meets President Xi Jinping - Make Jokes

Trump is reportedly becoming more frustrated with China’s inability – or lack of desire – to rein in North Korea. Does President Trump actually believe that with a visit and some tweets praising President Xi as if the Chinese leader is Justin Timberlake, Beijing would suddenly become Washington’s errand boy? Even when the U.S. needs China’s help, they didn’t show sincerity, or pretend to be.

On one hand the U.S. tries to be the best friend of China. But on the other hand, the U.S. sends destroyer warships to intimidate China in South China Sea. To humiliate China, the U.S. even announced a US$1.3 billion arms sale to Taiwan. With a friend like America who needs enemies? Does the U.S. think after 5,000 years of civilization, the Chinese are a bunch of idiots?

President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping - Handshake

Beijing has been playing Washington, from the moment President Xi Jinping stepped on American soil for a visit with President Donald Trump in April 2017. Like it or not, both China and Russia have no intention of stopping North Korea from testing and becoming a nuclear-powered nation. That’s because they have everything to gain and little to lose with Kim Jong-un running the kingdom.

There’s very little trust between Washington and Beijing. China will never trust the U.S., the same way Washington will never trust Moscow. American military forces should not even be in South Korea and Japan to begin with. Imagine the U.S. reaction if China or Russia builds a military base in Cuba with defence system installation under the pretext of protecting Cubans from Americans.

China vs United States - President Xi Jinping vs President Donald Trump

What North Korea wants is exactly what both China and Russia wanted – the U.S. should not dictate what everyone can and cannot do in the region. Kim Jong-un provides an opportunity to China and Russia to dismantle or at least weaken the U.S. aggressiveness. Playing good-cop-bad-cop drama, the fat boy Kim is now doing all the dirty works.

To start the ball-rolling, the U.S. and South Korea must cease their joint military exercises, which are seen as provocations. That’s the least the U.S. can do to get China to persuade North Korea to take a back step. Dictator Kim has said that he won’t put his nuclear and ballistic missiles on the negotiating table unless the U.S. withdraws its nuclear threats.

North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-Un’s Nuclear Threat

By Tillerson’s own admission, while Kim Jong-un may be a ruthless, murderous dictator, he is not mentally insane. Both China and Russia knew this, hence the North Korean leader is allowed to develop and play with his nuclear weapon and missiles. Kim’s target is South Korea and Japan, which has 15 and 23 U.S. military bases respectively.

Oh look, South Korea, Japan and the U.S. coincidently are enemies of China too. Get real, Beijing and Kremlin trust Pyongyang more than Washington. In the Korean War, almost 40,000 Americans died in action and more than 100,000 were wounded. And it was China’s troops sent in that saved North Korea from the U.S. annihilation under General Douglas MacArthur.

China-North Korea Relationship - Panda Pushing Kim Jong-un Firing Rockets

If there’s a plan to unite Korea, it has to be on North Korea, China and Russia’s term, not American’s. Now that the notorious Kim can be used to threaten any of U.S. military bases in the region, the U.S. bargaining power appears to have been diluted. With broad smile, Kim urged his scientists to “frequently send big and small ‘gift packages’ to the Yankees”, suggesting he isn’t done provoking the U.S.
