Syria is in a mess and with Vladimir Putin’s latest admission that Russian military are putting boots on the ground in Syria, things could get really ugly. For the first time, Putin isn’t shy about telling all and sundry that the Russia is providing “serious” training and logistical support to the Syrian army under the Bashar al-Assad regime.

Russian-built armoured personnel carrier - BTR-82A - in Syria and Russia

In reality, the Russian combat troops, numbering in thousands, have been deployed to Syria much longer than anyone can guess. Last week Syrian state television released images showing an advanced Russian-built armoured personnel carrier, the BTR-82a, in combat. Videos have also appeared in which troops engaged in combat appear to shout instructions to one another in Russian.

An estimated 250,000 lives have been lost throughout the four and a half year-long war in Syria. As long as Assad is in power, ISIS will grow. And now with the Russian openly throw their military hardware and software behind the man who ISIS hates, more Syrian innocents will be killed. Already, more than 9,000,000 Syrians have been forced to escape their own country.

Syrian Refugees Running Away

According to the United Nations, Turkey has taken the most Syrian refugees, numbering 1,938,999 people, followed by Lebanon (1,113,941), Jordan (629,245), Iraq (249,463), and Egypt (132,375). Besides these Middle Eastern countries, Europe has seen up to 340,000 asylum applications between Apr 2011 and Jul 2015.

As we speak, the funding required by UNHCR for the Syrian refugees crisis is at a whopping US$4,533,248,258. Germany has taken 35,000, followed by U.S. (16,286), Canada (11,300), and Brazil (7,380), with Britain promised to take in “thousands” of Syrian refugees. How about the super rich Gulf nations namely Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain?

Syrians Refugees Taken by Countries in Middle East

Believe it or not, these top-6 wealthiest Middle Eastern countries have taken “ZERO” Syrian refugee. Amnesty International’s Head of Refugee and Migrants’ Rights, Sherif Elsayid-Ali, described their inaction as “shameful”. That’s right; the richest Middle Eastern Muslim countries on planet Earth neither show any compassion nor sharing responsibility of this crisis at all.

Rich Middle East Refuse To Take Syrian Refugees

These rich Gulf nations argue that accepting large numbers of Syrian refugees is a serious threat to the safety of its citizens because terrorists could hide themselves among civilians. That’s quite hilarious because it was the same Saudi Arabia which has been pouring billions of dollars sponsoring terrorism, so much so that they gave birth to ISIS.

Nevertheless, they have donated large sums of money to help other Middle Eastern countries willing to shelter the Syrian refugees. For example, UAE has funded an entire refugee camp in Jordan. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have donated funds, food, shelter and clothing to Syrians in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan.

In total, the richest Gulf States are believed to have given over US$900 million (£590 million; RM3.9 billion) to the aid effort. But the figure pales in comparison to America who has contributed four times more (US$4.2 billion). While Germany has given US$960 million in aid, David Cameron has announced Britain is increasing its aid for refugees to more than £1billion (US$1.52 billion) from existing US$1.4 billion.

Syrians Refugees Settlement in Europe Countries

It’s simply mind-boggling that the top-6 richest Gulf nations couldn’t care less about getting their hands dirty in extending help in the name of humanitarian. Surely UAE has the expertise in creating shelters considering their giant construction projects. With Saudi’s vast experience in managing large number of Hajj pilgrims to Mecca, they also can’t offer “lack of experience” as an excuse.

King Salman Meet President Obama

Saudi King Salman, who is in Washington for his first White House meeting with President Barack Obama, has reportedly taken over the whole 222-room Four Seasons hotel in Georgetown. Besides red carpets, the monarch has gotten the hotel to prepare gold mirrors, gold end tables, gold lamps and even gold hat racks.

Perhaps it’s time for the people of these six mega rich Middle Eastern countries to tell their leaders about the importance of humanitarian, love, compassion and kindness. For a start, Saudi should put their knowhow and expertise in managing large number of pilgrims’ arrivals to humanitarian use. After all, they’re guilty for starting the war through their terrorism sponsorship.
