Beside London, wealthy playboys from Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia had their expensive toys delivered to the glamorous city of Cannes on the south coast of France. As usual, McLaren, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Rolls-Royces, Porsches, Bentleys were seen jamming France in what appears to be a display of the mega-rich Arabs’ wealth to the European Union, particularly UK and France.
Still, the main spot attraction is London due to the city being the major shopping preference for the super rich families. Earlier, we had seen how a “gold” Range Rover shamed a Rolls Royce Ghost which was parked next to it. So, it seems “gold” is the trend now among the Arabs, if the attention was what they were after. And after the Saudi Arabia’s gold Range Rover, another gold car has been spotted in London.
This time, a “gold” Ferrari attracted batallion of tourists for photograph. Driving around Kensington and Knightsbridge, the car with number plate “FI IRAK”, belongs to one undefeated kickboxing world champion Riyadh Al-Azzawi. It doesn’t take a genius to guess that Mr Riyadh is from Iraq. His gold Ferrari 458 Spider is the convertible version, widely regarded as one of the greatest cars built by Ferrari.
Powered by a 4.5-litre V8 engine which, located behind the driver, it develops a whopping 562bhp and could reach 0-62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. In actual fact, this is not the first time Mr Riyadh’s gold Ferrari is zooming around London. The £200,000 (US$335,000, RM1,076712) Spider raised eye-brows back in March this year when it was spotted in Knightsbridge. It was believed only £4,000 was spent on to get the shiny gold-vinyl Ferrari.
Born in Baghdad, Riyadh al-Azzawi was a six-time Iraqi National Champion and two time Arabic Champion before moving to the UK. He is now a two time British Champion and one time European Champion with a lifetime record of 47-0 with 35 wins by knockout. Interestingly, the fighter said his ambition is to unite Iraq through kickboxing and to defend his title in his home country.
And when Riyadh al-Azzawi is mentioned, one cannot help but to link him to the murder of Lebanese singer, Suzanne Tamim. She found dead dead on July 28 last year, with her throat slit and she was lying in a pool of blood at the entrance to her flat in Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai. Later, an Egyptian billionaire Hisham Talaat Moustafa was found guilty of paying US$2 million to an ex-policeman, Muhsin Sukkari, to kill the singer. Both men were sentenced to death.
Hisham Talaat Moustafa served in the upper house of the Egyptian parliament and was known to have been close to President Hosni Mubarak’s politically powerful son Gamal. Kickboxer Riyadh al-Azzawi meanwhile, was rumoured to have married Suzanne Tamim, but the Iraqi claimed they were merely “close friends”. It was indeed one heck of a messy tale of “sex, politics, money and business” in the Arab world.
