It appears that under the new Mahathir government, racism and extremism have not improved at all. As a matter of fact, it has taken a turn for the worse, if the latest racist remark spewed by a man who goes by the Facebook profiles of “Edi Rejang” is any indicator. Not only the man was racist, he also clearly was bullying a young salesgirl at a Giant supermarket.

 

In a 45-second video that has gone viral, a man (presumably Edi Rejang) holding up his phone, recorded a video of a salesgirl promoting Carlsberg to customers at the hypermarket in Ampang Point. The girl, however, was just doing her job at the alcoholic or non-halal section, suggesting that the man was deliberately looking for trouble by entering the “forbidden” zone.

 

However, little did Edi Rejang realize that he had picked the wrong girl to bully. The man approached the promoter and asked her what she was holding. The girl politely answered that it was beer. Like a typical UMNO racist and gangster, the man then asked what her race was and accused her of offering the alcoholic beverage to everyone in the hypermarket.

 

 

Instead of panicking, the sweet-looking salesgirl calmly replied in the negative, firmly saying she only offered samples of the drink to non-Muslims. The female beer promoter then questioned if he was looking to press any religious propaganda onto her. Upset, the man attacked her for speaking in English, demanding her to speak in Malay – “This is the land of the Malays, speak in Malay.”

 

Refused to be intimidated and bullied, the girl merely smiled and asked the man (presumably he could not speak English at all) if he was being a racist. Shocked by the retaliation, the man demanded again the girl converse in Malay, only to be questioned repeatedly by the girl if indeed the man was being a racist. The girl then asked whether she isn’t a Malaysian citizenship for speaking other languages.

 

Realizing he could not beat the Carlsberg promoter in a debate – intelligently – the man shamelessly showed his “middle finger” before verbally assaulting the ethnic Chinese girl, saying “fuck you”. The bullying drama does not only show how entrenched the issue of racism is in the country after a 61-year-rule under the previous regime, it also shows how the Chinese have been suffering – used as a punching bag.

As it turned out, the beer promoter, who has since been praised for her calmness and professional attitude while countering the bully, is no ordinary salesgirl. Unlike the emotional unstable Mr. Edi, the girl actually scored 7As in her SPM examination. She took the job probably part-time to gain experience while waiting to further her studies.

 

Between a sweet girl with top brain trying to make a living promoting Carlsberg and a man with IQ worse than a carrot trying to bully a non-Muslim by flashing the racial card, you don’t need a rocket scientist to tell who the pathetic loser is. Strangely enough, the racist Edi, apparently working at Rah Properties Corporation Sdn Bhd, actually sends her daughter to SJKC Chinese vernacular school.

 

The bully should not have ventured into the non-halal section in the first place. He has bad intention written all over his face the moment he walked into the area. He should have walked into the 4D betting outlets such as Magnum, Sports Toto or Damacai and assault the employees there for promoting gambling among the ethnic Malays by allowing them to buy betting tickets.

Heck, if Edi Rejang has balls, he should take a trip to Genting Highlands and start screaming and assaulting the Chinese boss – owner Lim Kok Thay – for promoting and expanding casinos while allowing Malay-Muslims to visit the tourist resort. He should demand all the shops selling alcoholic beverages in Genting Highlands be closed down as this is the land of the Malays.

 

Did the bully realize Carlsberg paid about RM62 million in taxes for the financial year 2017 alone, the tax money of which he probably enjoyed indirectly through cash aids (BR1M) under the previous Najib administration? Did he also realize Carlsberg factory was officially opened in 1972 by none other than Abdul Razak Hussein, the country’s second prime minister?

 

However, it would take a police report that the racist and bully Edi Rejang, with tail between legs, ultimately makes an apology to the sales promoter. Hoping the issue would not drag on any further, he said – “I would like to apologise publicly to all Malaysians including the female promoter. I admit my fault and I regret my actions towards the promoter.”

Prior to his apology, police said investigations were being carried out under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which deals with offences where words or gestures are used with the intention to insult the modesty of a person. If found guilty, Edi Rejang will be facing a maximum five-year prison sentence, a fine, or both upon conviction.

 

The burning question is, should the bully escape unpunished after his apology? Is he even sincerely sorry for his actions? He was probably terrified after the video went viral and the police was looking for him. Therefore, it’s most likely that Mr. Edi apologizes to prevent from going to jail or even losing his job, not because he has repented. At the very least, he should be charged and fined – to send a message.
