Hishammuddin Hussein, the cousin of disgraced ex-premier Najib Razak, has been keeping a low profile since the corrupt Barisan Nasional government he was part of lost its power in May polls. While his colleague, ex-deputy PM Zahid Hamidi, eagerly wanted the UMNO presidency, Mr. Hishammuddin cleverly took the path of leaving the party – quietly and discreetly .
Make no mistake about it. Hishammuddin, like his cousin Najib, was another crook disguised as a member of the “Upper-Class Families”. Like Najib, he is considered elite by virtue of him being the son of Malaysia’s third Prime Minister – Hussein Onn. But like the Java-migrant Zahid Hamidi, corruption and plundering were part of Hishamuddin’s breakfast menu.
Between Zahid and Hishammuddin, obviously the latter was a smarter guy. Hishammuddin knew when to fold his card at the poker table. While Zahid saw it as a must to take some photo with PM Mahathir after his humiliating meeting with the old man whom he had just mocked and insulted, Hishammuddin chose to sneak like a mouse into Mahathir’s office for a discussion.
It was no coincidence that Hishammuddin “secretly” met Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on the same day that former Minister of International Trade and Industry Mustapa Mohamed resigned from UMNO after more than 40 years in the party. Both Hishammuddin and Mustapa wanted to join the new Pakatan Harapan government for obvious reason.
In fact, every single of 49 UMNO Member of Parliaments wanted to join Mahathir government yesterday. They are like either drug addicts without the usual supply, or drug kingpins afraid of being arrested by authorities. They are treating the new government as another new MLM marketing company where they can join and start the pyramid scheme all over again.
Get real!! Corruption hasn’t disappeared into the thin air, as Mahathir would like everyone to believe when he made the declaration yesterday that corruption in the country has become a thing of the past. Just because there was a change in government and crooks like Najib, Rosmah and Zahid have been charged, doesn’t mean corruption is gone forever.
Forgiving and bringing back veteran corrupt politicians from the old government to the new government will be the first step of starting the corruption process all over again. Yes, it appears that scumbags like Khairy Jamaluddin, Nazri Aziz, Anifah Aman and Hishammuddin Hussein are some of the big guns from the old corrupt regime seeking to join the new club.
That explains why suddenly Hishammuddin becomes James Bond, offering his service to go after Jho Low (fullname: Low Taek Jho) until the “end of earth” and bring the fugitive financier back to Malaysia to face the music. Hmm, that sounds exactly like former police chief Khalid Abu Bakar who had vowed to search every “wormhole” for fugitive sex blogger Alvin Tan in 2014.
Amusingly, while Alvin Tan (fullname: Tan Jye Yee) was reportedly seeking asylum in the United States to escape UMNO, Jho Low is reportedly seeking protection in China to escape the new government. And double agent Hishammuddin, after serving UMNO for decades until its recent downfall, now desperately wants to serve a new master.
Hishammuddin claims that he could use his previous contacts and links with the Chinese government and friends to try and bring back Jho Low if he is in China. He said – “I think all Malaysians want to know the truth. So we need to bring him back to face justice. I will do my utmost to bring him home so that the 1MDB case can see a closure. Then, only the country can move forward.”
Did he just insult not only the Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun and his 130,000 boys for their incompetency in bringing home the fat crook, but also humiliated the Council of Eminent Persons chairman Daim Zainuddin as well as Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad himself for failing to diplomatically pressure Beijing to handover Jho Low?
Exactly what magic strings that Hishammuddin, now without any power, could pull that even the Government of Malaysia couldn’t? Is a Malay racist like Hishammuddin who had repeatedly waved his “keris (Malay dagger)” promising to used it on ethnic Chinese, more powerful than billionaire Robert Kuok to whom the Chinese government is indebted to?
Yes, if Robert Kuok who has the ears of President Xi Jinping could not even secure the extradition of Jho Low, what are the chances that Hishammuddin Hussein could pull a rabbit out of a hat? It’s simply jaw-dropping that the cousin of Najib could not catch Jho Low when he was the Defence Minister but could easily get the crook home now that he isn’t a minister anymore.
But if indeed he could get Jho Low when everyone could not, it would only mean one thing. An agreement between Malaysia and China is already in the working behind the scene after all for the extradition of Jho Low back to Kuala Lumpur in exchange for something valuable to Beijing. And Mahathir wants Hishammuddin to become the hero, pretending that he was the one who secured the deal.
How could this possible? One has to remember that when Mahathir was asked if his government wants to open its doors to Mustapa Mohamed, the 93-year-old premier said – “If he does want to join, he will have to prove that he is different than before.” Therefore, Jho Low could be the express ticket that Mahathir might pass to Hishammuddin so that he could join his party – PPBM or Bersatu.
Interestingly, just hours apart, Nazri Aziz, another UMNO warlord desperately wishing to jump ship, came out with guns blazing declaring that he will always be the prime-minister-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim’s hardcore supporter. He shamelessly announced – “I am his hardcore supporter. I have always been his friend. I still attended his daughter Nurul Izzah’s wedding.”
So, what were the chances that on the same day, Nazri announced his undivided support for Anwar while Hishammuddin broadcasted his mission to hunt down Jho Low to make Mahathir happy? Could this mean that the floodgate for the recruitment of ex-crooks from UMNO is officially opened? It’s not hard to understand why Mahathir wants the “kerisman” Hishammuddin.
Like Oxford-graduate Khairy Jamaluddin, the British-educated Hishammuddin Hussein can be considered as cream of the crop specially moulded to take over the country under the previous UMNO agenda. Mahathir himself was part of the UMNO architecture, until his protégé Najib Razak together with his wife Rosmah Mansor went rogue and installed themselves as the Emperor and Empress.
More importantly, Mahathir’s own party is experiencing a huge deficit of talents when compared to other component parties in the Pakatan Harapan coalition. He is like a great leader without any good successors to take over the throne. His party’s top lieutenants are no better than UMNO warlords, if not worse. Even his son Mukhriz was handed the Kedah Chief Ministership on a silver platter.
And there’s a reason why Mahathir keeps bitching and whining that he isn’t satisfied with the performance of his Cabinet ministers. The old fox wants to create a justification to replace them with the so-called talents such as Khairy and Hishammuddin. And catching Jho Low was supposed to be an illusion that Hishammuddin has become a good guy – the James Bond – overnight.

Looks like Malaysia is put in the spot again. The creation of another race based party is in the making. Will it be the resurrection of the defeated and the lame to be propped up and take the ugly stand of racism and religion again? We fought teeth and claws to be rid of corrupt and power crazy leaders. Well, hope and pray we are not heading back to square one again.
The voters voted these Umno buggers out. This will be the biggest mistake if they are bought back in.
