Zahid has finally been charged with multiple criminal breach of trust (CBT), abuse of power and money laundering, and he is already looking at 45 charges altogether. But this is just the beginning for the UMNO president. The authorities have not even slapped him with charges related to 1MDB yet. It appears that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is an easier meat than his former boss, ex-premier Najib Razak.
Chances are extremely high that Mr. Zahid, well known for his thuggish ways of “fixing” critics or anyone he didn’t like, would become not only the first president in the history of UMNO party charged, but also jailed. Sure, he can put on a brave face and smile and wave as if he had won a beauty pageant contest. But the disgraced Java-migrant was actually trembling with fear.
It didn’t help that out of UMNO’s self-proclaimed 3-million members, less than 200 made their presence at the Kuala Lumpur court complex in support of former Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi. In comparison, Anwar Ibrahim, also a former Deputy Prime Minister, drew tens of thousands of UMNO supporters to the street when he was sacked for allegedly engaged in homosexual acts.
Zahid’s wife, Hamidah Khamis, cried and whined that her husband is a victim of “vengeance” after he was arrested yesterday. She, amusingly, invoked the racial and religion cards by calling upon UMNO members to stand by his husband in the name of Malay honour, whatever that means. Apparently, she argued that his husband has sacrificed for religion, race and country.
Zahid’s daughter, Nurulhidayah, on the other hand, screamed and bitched that her father is now the target of cruelty. The spoilt little brat also uploaded a video of her daughter Sofee on a video-call, asking why “they” wanted to send her grandfather to jail. She mocked that the new government no longer practise “reformasi (reformation)” but “hipokrasi (hypocrisy)”.
It’s fabulously funny that both crooked families of Najib and Zahid pull the same drama script from the same playbook – accusing the new Pakatan Harapan government of engaging vengeance, instead of rule of law, and put their grandchildren and cats on public gallery to prove just how cruel the new government has been since they took over the country.
Mr. Zahid, and his wife and daughter for that matter, had probably thought that they could easily wriggle out of the RM800,000 misappropriated from Yayasan Akalbudi foundation to pay off his and his wife’s credit card bills. After all, the foundation funds were used to build mosques, suraus, tahfiz centres as well as to help underprivileged groups, including single mothers.
Ahh, but that’s the problem with many crooks who hide behind the name of charity. Just because Zahid Hamidi was the chairman and the biggest contributor to the foundation, it doesn’t give him the right to use the funds to pay off his family credit card bills. Besides, a foundation can easily be used as a tool to launder dirty money, and it appears Yayasan Akalbudi could have been set up just to do that.
But using the foundation as his private piggie bank to live a lavish lifestyle isn’t the real problem here. His biggest problem – aside from his involvement in 1MDB scandal – is the 45 charges for CBT and money laundering involving a whopping RM114 million. Yes, the UMNO’s biggest gangster Zahid is being charged for receiving kickbacks during his good old days.
As Home Minister, Mr. Zahid had abused his position and received RM21.25 million in kickbacks, and laundered a jaw-dropping RM71.97 million, not to mention CBT involving RM20.79 million. This could just be the tip of the iceberg for the ex-deputy prime minister, who was also known by the public as a despicable bully and racist.
From receiving millions of ringgit as bribes in appointing Profound Radiance Sdn Bhd as the operator of a one-stop centre for processing Pakistan and Nepal migrant worker visas, to purchasing two bungalows in Hulu Langat, Selangor for RM5.9 million, Zahid Hamidi has proven himself to be the crook who lives beyond his legitimate income.
Heck, the crooked Zahid was so deep in corruption and money laundering that it took 55 minutes for the court to complete reading out the charge-sheet. It’s quite amazing that UMNO Malay Nationalist party had succeeded in breeding two biggest crooks for the country – Bugis-warrior Najib Razak and Javanese-champion Zahid Hamidi.
So, even without the 1MDB thrown in, former Deputy PM Zahid Hamidi is facing up to 20 years in prison for CBT (criminal breach of trust), money laundering and abuse of power – similar to Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor. Perhaps they could extend their friendship in prison. Perhaps Zahid could improve his English while serving his sentence.
Perhaps he wasn’t fated to become UMNO president from the beginning. It’s jinxed ever since Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor engaged black magic to grab the throne and forcefully cling to power. Perhaps the arrogant Zahid should not have had mocked and insulted Mahathir Mohamad of his Indian ancestry – calling him the son of Iskandar “Kutty”. Karma is a bitch.
Contrary to what his wife and daughter have claimed, the once fearsome thug is actually facing his judgement day. There isn’t any vengeance, let alone cruelty being slapped on Zahid Hamidi. He was nothing but a corrupt scumbag who had thought of himself as the invincible future prime minister. The day of him terrorizing the public has come to its end. The chicken has come home to roost.
