United States Secret Service Director, Julia Pierson, was grilled during a hearing by the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday. Next, she was shown the door. Interestingly, Obama administration told the world they had full confidence in her less than one and a half year ago, when Barack Obama appointed the first woman to head the 6,700-member agency on March 27, 2013.
There were numerous scandals and embarrassing moments that had affected the Secret Service image. But the last straw that broke the camel’s back was about a security lapse that allowed a convict with a gun to share an elevator with the president. Even during her testimonial at the hearing, she didn’t sound or at least pretend to be outrage about the incident, which could be deadly if the stranger was an ISIS member.
Apparently, on Sept 16, the Secret Service security was breached during President Obama’s visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, when a man with a gun that the Secret Service didn’t know about rode in the same elevator. This incident took place three days before an intruder jumped a fence and sprinted inside the White House. Although the president was not hurt in anyway in both incidents, it exposes a breakdown in the Secret Service security protocols.
Amusingly, Obama administration has its fair share of security loopholes with the Secret Service. On Nov 2009, a couple of wannabe reality-TV stars, Tareq and Michaele Salahi, crashed the White House’s state dinner, penetrating layers of security with no invitation to mingle with the likes of Vice President Biden and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, not to mention in the same room as President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Then on Nov 2011, a man was able to park his car on a street near the White House, fire a semiautomatic rifle multiple times and inflict damage on the president’s home, and flee the scene. Initially, Secret Service officers rushed to respond but minutes later declared everything was good and conveniently blamed the noise from a nearby construction vehicle. It took the elite Secret Service team four days before realizing shooting had indeed occurred.
Later On Apr 2012, the supposedly America’s best Secret Service was exposed in a prostitution scandal in Cartagena, Colombia, thanks partly to the agents who got “cheapo” trying to pay off a prostitute with just US$30. The woman, needless to say, got furious as their agreement was for substantially more. She saw a Colombian police officer and before you know it, the elite Secret Service exposed to the world what they were made of.
On Mar this year, Three Secret Service agents attached to Counter Assault Team responsible for protecting President Obama in Amsterdam were sent home and put on administrative after going out for a night of drinking. It was so bad that one of the agents was found drunk and passed out in a hotel hallway. The hotel staff alerted the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands after finding the unconscious agent, who then alerted Secret Service director Julia Pierson, a day before Obama arrived in the country.
To be fair, eliminating Julia Pierson will not solve the low morale problem currently infecting Secret Service agents. Dan Emmett, a former counter-assault team leader and Secret Service agent, admitted that the entire upper management needs to be replaced. Otherwise, it will be business as usual. But Julia, who worked during high school at Walt Disney World as a costumed character and park attendant, worsen the situation when she wanted the elite Secret Service team to be more friendly, like Disney World (*grin*).
No wonder people in the Secret Service grumbles about serving under a boss who doesn’t know anything about security planning in a post 9/11 world. Comically, when lawmakers grilled Pierson about the 2011 shooting at the White House, Pierson irritated lawmakers when she said she knew little about the incident, despite having been the agency’s chief of staff at the time. And considering the Secret Service is getting a whopping US$1.53 billion budget for the year, the ignorant director Julia Pierson is fired.

I have always maintained the opinion, that women do not
belong in politics. It is bad enough having to battle with
male politicians. How often have women made fools of them-
selves, using Hillary Rotten Clinton as a prime example,
or Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the
Demcratic chain gang. We all know whom they are.
