Pro-UMNO Red Shirts want to rally despite police saying “No”. Apparently, these supposedly very influential and million-members-club thugs wanted to show off that they can also mobilise at least 300,000 to the street, in retaliation to the Bersih 4.0 yellow-shirts mega rally, which itself claimed had attracted 500,000 people during a 34-hour rally recently.
Instead of stopping the red shirts from demonstration, they should be given the green light to do so, never mind the police have classified the Bersih 4.0 as illegal. If the yellow shirts had taken to the street peacefully on the eve of Merdeka Day on Aug 31, the red shirts should be allowed to do the same “peaceful” demonstration on Sept 16, the Malaysia Day.
Then only it’s fair to everyone. Since Bersih 4.0 had proven that 500,000 people can rally peacefully in a carnival-like atmosphere, logically the “Himpunan Maruah Melayu”, whatever that means, should have no problem getting its 300,000 people to rally peacefully too. The “Taikor” of red shirts – Jamal Md Yunos – has declared the rally will happen, come storm, rain or earthquake.
Many believe the Bersih 4.0 was a DAP-rally, a Chinese-rally, or even a Chinese-vs-Malay rally. Because over 80% of Chinese voted for DAP, the blanket assumption was such that Bersih 4.0 must be a DAP rally because up to 90% Chinese attended on the first day of the rally. They conveniently ignore the fact that up to 30%-40% Malays turned up on second day.
So, this “sensitive” group of Malays wanted to teach the Chinese a lesson. They wanted to release their “steam”. They wanted to organise a rally exclusively for Malays only, hence the “Himpunan Maruah Melayu” which loosely translated into “Malay Dignity Rally”. That’s quite strange because Bersih 4.0 was never about Chinese empowerment, dignity nor supremacy.
Unfortunately, majority of Bersih 4.0 participants comprised ethnic-Chinese, despite the fact the rally was opened to everyone regardless of race. But the insecure pro-UMNO and anti-DAP Malays weren’t impressed and must copy the same rally but on a larger scale, otherwise they would “loose face”. This rally is their way to reclaim “dignity”.
Unlike Bersih 4.0 rally which was done at the traditional rally points as the previous version 1, 2 and 3; the red shirts wanted to do it “peacefully” at Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street, two Chinese dominated business areas which doubles as tourist spots. That’s fine because the Kuala Lumpur police HQ is just a stone throw away.
There are many reasons why the red shirts should be allowed to rally. People would like to see if the police will declare them as an “illegal organisation”. People would like to see if the Malaysian Armed Forces chief Gen Zulkifeli Mohd Zin will declare the military is ready to intervene in the rally if big boss Najib declares a state of emergency.
People will also like to see if DBKL will send the red shirts organiser a “clean up” bill. Surely Mr Jamal will make a killing from selling red T-shirts, the same way Bersih 4.0 did. So, people like to read how 300,000 red T-shirts are being snapped away. Revenue from tourism should skyrocket at Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street.
The red shirts shouldn’t restrict their rally to merely 12-hour because that would be an insult to the Malays. It should last longer than Bersih 4.0’s 34-hour, so perhaps they want to consider 48-hour or at least 34-hour-1-minute just to beat the crap out of Bersih 4.0. I’m willing to bet my last ringgit that all cell phones at Low Yat will be a “Sell-Out” (*grin*).
The area of interest is also thrived with massage parlours, shopping centres and prostitution heaven – something which could come handy for the red shirts protesters. Business would be so good that the Chinese might petition to the Agong (King) to consider making such rally an annual event. Wait a second, what if the red shirts start damaging properties and ask for bloods?
Well, if PM Najib survives till the next general election and somehow losses, the same set of UMNO mobs and thugs could be instructed to start the same racial riots. So, it’s either now or later. If it happens now, at least the area of destruction is confined to Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street. And the world can watch how civilized UMNO-Malays are.
Who knows, with red shirts running amok around golden triangle, the ringgit could skyrockets to RM6.00 to a dollar, attracting trillions of dollars in tourism money into the country. People can also share videos and photos of red shirts’ awesome skill in destruction with rural voters, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.
If the rally turns out peacefully, so much the better. Then both yellow and red shirts can prove to the police that Malaysian protesters are mature enough to handle themselves. Most importantly, 300,000 red shirts could make some pocket money since they claimed Bersih 4.0 paid RM300 per person. That’s RM90 million to excite the sagging economy.
To imitate Mahathir who visited Bersih 4.0 twice, PM Najib should do the same. To make it more meaningful and dramatic, Najib must remember to take a “selfie” with the red shirts flashing with “parang” (machetes) when visiting them. That would be super cool. Just don’t hit the pink lips with wooden sticks or smashes his head with bricks. He’s ain’t no Shaolin kungfu master.
