There were two persons on planet Earth who correctly predicted Brazil would lose, in such a humiliating way. A man in Altrincham bet that Brazil would be trashed 5-0 at half time. And he won £240 (US$411, RM1,304) after putting an 80p bet. Bookmakers William Hill revealed the unidentified punter put the small amount on the 300-1 wager for the unlikely result before the game. Nobody put a single cent on a 7-1 result though.
The second person was Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. England was his sentimental favourite while he likes Brazil game play and he bet Spain would win. Now, with England and Spain out of the game, it was an easy bet on Brazil – to lose. Why? Because Najib is jinxed. Whatever he bets, you can safely make tons of money, by betting the opposite.
When he bet on Manchester United, the team lost big time 1-6 to Manchester City. When he bet on 1Malaysia, it fails miserably. When he bet the missing Malaysian flight MH370 ended in southern Indian Ocean, not a single piece of pubic hair is found till today. When he bet people can buy a whole chicken for RM1, not a single person manages to purchase for such a price.
If you want to make good money, just go and interview the prime minister of his favourite for the remaining matches, and bet the opposite. You’re guaranteed to score big (*grin*). Besides blaming Najib, Brazilians have nobody to blame but their team for relying too much on Neymar. The absence of Neymar and captain Thiago Silva had crippled the Brazil team, psychologically.
Clearly, it wasn’t the defeat that sent Brazilian football fans home in tears. It was how their team were humiliated on their own home soil. It was a goal fiesta for the Germans when they scored 5 (five) goals in the space of just 29 minutes. In other words, Brazil’s fate was already written in stone after the first half of the match itself. It was so catastrophic and terrible that the Germans could deliberately slowed down their slaughtering on the Brazilian team.
The home spectators were so disappointed that their team were booed off, and who could blame them? The Brazil-Germany match was the biggest defeat in a World Cup semi-final and Brazil’s worst defeat in their history. In fact, this is worse than Brazil’s defeat to Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup at the Maracana. Surely this is not the type of history being made that Brazilians were hoping for, considering they have paid a whopping US$11 billion to host this World Cup.
Here’s how the German machines slaughtered the Samba team:
– First Goal (11th minute): From a corner, a totally unmarked Thomas Muller (#13) side-foots home from six yards out to fire Germany into the lead.
– Second Goal (23rd minute): Miroslav Klose scores a record-breaking 16th World Cup goal into the bottom right-hand corner from about 11 yards out to put Germany 2-0 in a comfortable lead. Brazil started to get disarray.
– Third Goal (24th minute): Exploiting the space behind Marcelo, Toni Kroos volleys home with his left foot from about 15 yards. Goal fiesta starts for the Germans.
– Fourth Goal (26th minute): Toni Kroos sidefoots home (his second goal) into an empty net from about 10 yards out. Humiliation for Brazil starts – they openly cry in disbelief.
– Fifth Goal (29th minute): Sami Khedira side-foots home Germany’s fifth goal from the left side of the penalty area, about 12 yards out – easy meat. Is this World Cup or a friendly match? Unbelievable, Brazil and the hosts are 5-0 down in the semi-final after less than 30 minutes.
– Sixth Goal (69th minute): My God, even German substitute Andre Schuerrle made no mistake from his position in acres of space, side-footing home from seven or eight yards to make it 6-0 for the Germany. How the Brazilian hope the referee would blow the whistle there and then.
– Seventh Goal (79th minute): Andre Schurrle did it again – he roofs the ball into the top corner with a diagonal left-footed screamer from about eight yards out, on the left side of the penalty area – a fabulous finishing. Who says it’s hard to beat the Brazilians? They’re easy meat, no?
And, here’s the consolation prize for the Brazil team:
– First Goal (90th minute): By now, the German defence is almost negligible as almost all players are in the Brazil’s zone hoping to score more goals. This gives Oscar the opportunity to shoot into an empty net. But does it matter?
Now, will we get to see a clash between Germany and Argentina? That will depends on whether Netherlands can stop Messi. Since the first match, we’ve written that if you cannot stop Messi, then your team will get very messy. Just like Brazil, the problem with Argentina is the heavy reliance on Messi. But unlike Brazil, Messi gets to play while Neymar didn’t. In the meantime, netizens have started to mock and make funs of Brazil’s amazing defeat.
