Instead of taking it with a pinch of salt or having a great laugh, Najib administration has gone bonkers. There’s little doubt that Malaysia have many great talents. If only they’re in Hollywood, their films would bring in billions of dollars in profits. Getting sick and tired of endless corruptions, scandals, skyrocket cost of living, people have taken to #1MDBMovies.

Malaysia MCMC

What was supposed to be a social media channel for Malaysians to release their pressure and dissatisfactions, has now turns into a nightmare. In a Facebook posting today, MCMC said that it was an offence to share or spread news which contained false information about 1MDB under Section 211 or 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

MCMC, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, has warned the public to stop spreading modified pictures, unverified news or any speculation on the investigation into 1MDB through social media, including through the WhatsApp application. Clearly, MCMC isn’t amuse with satire posted on Twitter #1MDBMovies.

Malaysian Ringgit Toast - Najib Razak 1MDB Scandal

As a leader who embraces social media himself, prime minister Najib Razak should know better than anyone that it’s ridiculous to issue such a childish warning, after such an explosive scandal hits his own face. After all, if he is indeed as clean as a whistle, why takes it so personally and seriously.

We would think the latest action by MCMC was done without consulting propagandist scientist Lim Kok Wing. As a specialist, Mr Lim would know that the best medicine to counter “naughty” mocking is to leave them alone. The more you try to intimidate the netizens, the more free publicity you give them.

Najib Razak and Kim Jong-un - Waving

By threatening citizens living in a democracy country with fine of not more than RM50,000 and/or jail of not more than a year because of some jokes related to a scandal exposed by the Wall Street Journal is like telling the whole world that Malaysia is not much different from communist North Korea.

About a year ago, North Korean supremo Kim Jong-un was furious when a Chinese student made a hilarious video mocking him together with world leaders President Obama, Osama bin Laden, Vladimir Putin, Ban Ki Mon and Shinzo Abe. North Korea complained to China but because it was too funny, China refused.

Crime To Parody 1MDB - Marina Mahathir - Jails Full

To borrow Najib’s biggest bootlicker – Zahid Hamidi – favourite tag line: “Whoever Eats Chilli Will Feel The Heat” (Siapa Makan Cili Dia Rasa Pedas), so is the government too panic with the scandal that they couldn’t tell what’s the right thing to do as far as social network engagement is concerned?

Malay Mail Online has posted a tweet together with Emperor Najib superimposed as Leornardo diCaprio in “The Wolf of Wall Street (Journal)”, a film produced by his own step son, Riza Aziz. So, will the press be prosecuted and sent to jail? When Mahathir’s daughter, Marina, was asked about the silly crackdown, she tweeted – “Jails Would Be Full”.

Yes, Najib administration shouldn’t be a “fool” by making jails “full”. Let’s hope the government doesn’t go bonkers and start executing netizens with “anti-aircraft” gun, the same thing did by Kim Jong-un. Here’re top-30 new movies proposed by netizens in the Twitter world #1MDBMovies.
