As of Tuesday (Jan 13, 2026), the death toll from anti-government protests in Iran reached 1,850, according to data published by the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA). Among the dead are 9 children. Over the same 17 days of unrest that have been recorded in 606 locations in 187 cities across all 31 Iranian provinces, at least 16,784 people have been arrested.

In fact, on Wednesday (Jan 14), the regime is set to execute its first protester. Erfan Soltani, 26, is scheduled to be hanged to death after his arrest during the protests in Karaj last Thursday. “His family was told that he had been sentenced to death and that the sentence is due to be carried out on 14 January,” – the IHR (Iran Human Rights) said. The man’s only crime – calling for freedom.

Amusingly, Soltani is being charged with “waging war against God,” a crime punishable by death in Iran. Supporters say he has not been allowed legal advice and had no chance to defend himself before a verdict of death by hanging was delivered. He was allowed to see his family for just “10 minutes” yesterday to say goodbye, according to activists. Tehran is now expediting court hearings so they can execute more.

Iran Protest Revolution - Protester Hang To Death - Erfan Soltani

IHR Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam warned that the death toll is likely to increase as Tehran is likely to execute many of those arrested to send a message to its detractors. The Islamic Republic is infamous for using its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to slaughter civilian protesters. U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Tehran that violence against the protesters would be met with a military response from the U.S.

The burning question is where are Muslim heroes like Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, UMNO Youth Chief Akmal Saleh and Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS – Parti Islam Se-Malaysia)? At least, a “kafir” called Trump on Monday announced a 25% tariff on any country doing business with Iran, after repeatedly warning Tehran against the use of force to suppress the ongoing protests.

Akmal, the youth chief from the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), was extremely angry over several incidents – including socks bearing the word “Allah”, incidents of upside-down national flags, and alcohol being served at a government event. He argues that the Malay dignity was insulted – crossing the “red lines” involving race, religion and royalty.

Akmal Salleh – UMNO Youth Chief

While Malaysia and Iran do not share the same race and royalty, Muslims from both countries share the same religion – Islam. Despite different schools of Islam, where Malaysia is an overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim-majority country, while Iran is a Shia Muslim-majority country, the fundamental teaching of Islam does not approve the slaughtering of fellow Muslims, no?

So, why Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh, and PM Anwar and PAS Mullahs for that matter, are as quiet as a church mouse when Iran is openly butchering Iranian Muslims, but foaming at the mouth in condemning Israel’s killing of Palestinians? Isn’t this a classic example of double standards and hypocrisy when they criticized only Israel’s brutality, but not Iran’s brutality?

Akmal previously described Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank as cruel, inhumane, and a violation of international law and human rights. Using his same argument, does not Iran’s actions in Tehran equally cruel, inhumane, and a violation of international law and human rights? Perhaps Akmal and UMNO have a different set of rules which give exemption to Muslims butchering Muslims from such criticism.

PM Anwar Ibrahim - Speechless

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who recently called for an immediate cessation of violence in Sudan, urging the protection of civilians in full compliance with international humanitarian law and insisting that Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people of Sudan, has displayed nothing but cowardice and empty talk when he keeps silent over the same violence in Iran.

Worse, narcissist Anwar shows he only has the balls to lecture a smaller Muslim country called Sudan, but dares not squeak a sound against a bigger Muslim country called Iran. Exactly where is Anwar’s compassion for the Iranian people, who were forced to protest due to economic collapse and currency crisis? It appears he only has compassion for jailed crook Najib Razak, but not for oppressed Muslims in Iran.

The Premier cannot now argue that his Madani can’t interfere in the internal affairs of Iran, because the same Madani has done the same in Gaza and Israel. In fact, he should organize a mega rally in solidarity with Iranians being brutalized by Iran regime, the same way he used public funds to rally Malay-Muslims in solidarity with Palestinians against Zionist regime brutality.

Iran Protest Revolution - Burning on Street 2

The UK’s foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper, as well as the Dutch foreign minister, have condemned the Iranian leadership for the “horrendous and brutal killing” of protesters, and said the government had summoned the Iranian ambassador to underline the gravity of the situation. Should not Malaysia do the same after the “most brutal and bloody repression against public protests in Iran for at least 13 years?”

At the very least, Mr Anwar, who constantly spews rhetoric about the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, the dignity of democracy and whatnot, should condemn Tehran for rushing into executing 26-year-old Erfan Soltani without a proper trial. By selectively criticizing certain nations to suit his political agenda, it only shows his inconsistency and hypocrisy.

If there’s one similarity between the Khamenei regime and Anwar Madani, it’s the blackout of critics. While the panicked Iranian regime has cut off internet and phone lines nationwide in an attempt to disrupt protests and cover up its repression, the pathetic Anwar administration has blocked alternative news portal critical of the government to cover up scandals, corruption and incompetency.

Iran Protest Revolution - Bodies Bags

While PAS has a historical connection to Iran’s post-Revolutionary Islamic model through its conservative ideology and radical Islamic governance, including showing solidarity with Iran’s Islamic Republic, the Malaysian Islamist political party should slam power-hungry Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s bloody crackdown on fellow Muslim Iranians.

Even if Anwar, Akmal and PAS were too cowardly to condemn Iran’s brutality, they can’t ignore the video of bodies lining the streets outside the Kahrizak Forensic Medical Center. They were fellow Muslims being massacred while the fake defenders of Muslims like PM Anwar, UMNO Akmal and PAS shamelessly buried their heads in the sand, waiting for the next opportunity to bully minority Chinese and Indian ethnic.
