Is 2014 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony the worst ever in the history? Unfortuantely, many think so after yesterday’s kick-off at the Corinthians Arena, Sao Paulo, Brazil. First, you could hardly listen to what Jennifer Lopez was singing, thanks to the superb sound system (can someone sack the manager please). The sound quality was so bad that you could mistaken it as TV’s fault.

 

Seriously, it was a disgrace to Brazil. Brazillians should condemn this embarrasment despite millions (£4.5million, US$7.6 million, RM24.5 million) spent. It was nothing more than a primary school Christmas play at best (*tongue-in-cheek*). The consolation was perhaps the host team Brazil beats Croatia 3-1 in their opening match.

At certain point, Jennifer Lopez looked like being forced to be there, with a forced smile on her glum face. And what was that Pitbull doing there? While Pitbull serves no purpose, the song was terribly bad as compared to 4-years ago in Africa. Like it or not, it makes Shakira like a Goddess and 2010 World Cup song, “Waka Waka”, better than “We Are One (Ole Ola)” by thousands of miles.

 

Perhaps Brazil should stick to their local singer. Earlier, J-Lo was said to be pulling out from the opening ceremony, leaving rapper Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte to perform the show. Rumours had it that it was due to production issue while some said the singer was not in mood after her split from her dancer boyfriend Casper Smart, who cheated on J-Lo with a “transsexual woman”.

There were also strong speculation that J-Lo wasn’t happy with the amount of money she was going to receive. She had wanted FIFA  to also cover everything for her, from private transportation, to her hotel and the costs associated for her entire entourage. But after the sound system fiasco, was it a waste of money bringing in J-Lo? The answer is obvious, isn’t it?

 

Nevertheless, let’s enjoy some good moments during the opening ceremony and fas reaction during the Brazil-Croatia first match.
