When Hamas terrorists and several other Palestinian militant groups launched coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7, 2023, they made one huge mistake. They were unable to entirely destroy the Jews state. Hamas and its main sponsor – Iran – had no idea what was about to hit them when they killed 1,195 and kidnapped 251.

While thousands of pro-Hamas Palestinians took to the street to celebrate, many elderly Palestinians knew the nightmare was about to begin. Sure, go ahead and attack Israel if you like. But you must make sure the Jewish state is defeated beyond redemption. To rejoice after giving a bloody nose to an angry lion while you’re still in the cage with the beast isn’t a very clever strategy.

As far back as November 2023, less than a month after the Hamas attack, War cabinet minister Benny Gantz already announced that Israel will hunt down Hamas leaders “in Gaza and around the world.” Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had declared – “Every Hamas member is a dead man.“Yet, many still took the warnings lightly – even laughed at the Israeli’s threats.

After declaring war on Hamas, Israeli military forces quickly transformed Gaza into dead bodies and rubble. Whole neighborhoods have been erased. Homes, schools and even hospitals have been blasted by airstrikes and scorched by tank fire. Israel’s bombardment has become one of the most intense air campaigns since World War II. But it was just the beginning.

What followed later was the targeted assassination of numerous top officials of Hamas, Hezbollah and even Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including Haniyeh, Nasrallah and Sinwar. From its ground invasion of southern Lebanon on the night of 30 September 2024, it would take only about 2 months for terrorist organization Hezbollah – the crown jewel of Iran’s network – to be defeated.

Hamas was left to fend for itself after Tehran cut losses and told Hezbollah to agree to a ceasefire, even though it was on terms favourable to Israel. The Iranian regime is now struggling to ensure the survival of its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. But the real revenge has not even begun – till early Friday morning (June 13, 2025) when the Jewish state launched a major offensive against the Islamic Republic.

The surprise attack on Friday 13 struck nuclear sites, military facilities, missile bases and senior leadership. Jerusalem revealed the “precise, preemptive strike” against Iran involved over 200 fighter jets. The multiple waves of Israeli strikes, which began at around 3 a.m. and last several hours into the morning, saw the unleash of over 330 munitions on some 100 targets on the first day.

The “Rising Lion” Operation was directed at Iran’s nuclear program as well as its ballistic missile factories and its military capabilities. Israel said it had no choice but to attack Iran, based on intelligence that Tehran was approaching “the point of no return” in its pursuit of a nuclear weapon – Iran currently has enough enriched uranium to build 15 nuclear bombs.

Crucially, Israel has allocated 14 days of operations, but PM Netanyahu said it would last “as many days as it takes”. Iran’s Natanz underground enrichment site, which includes a multilevel enrichment hall containing centrifuges, electrical rooms and additional support infrastructure, has been hit several times. However, the military operation did not involve only Israel Air Forces.

According to the official, Mossad agents had long infiltrated deep inside Iran, setting up a drone base on Iranian soil near Tehran. The drones were activated overnight, striking surface-to-surface missile launchers aimed at Israel. In addition, vehicles carrying weapons systems were smuggled into Iran, and used to take out Iran’s air defenses and gave Israeli planes air supremacy and freedom of action over Iran.

The third covert operation involved Mossad commandos deploying precision missiles near anti-aircraft sites in central Iran. Iranian state media confirmed that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Hossein Salami was killed in an Israeli strike. The chief of Iran’s military, Mohammad Bagheri was also killed, along with the head of the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters, Gholam Ali Rashid.

Israel also killed at least six senior Iranian nuclear scientists, including Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi – dealing a devastating blow to Iran. Fereydoun was a former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, while Mohammad Mehdi was the president of the Islamic Azad University of Iran, a theoretical physicist.

But the most stunning part is how Tehran was tricked and misled by the U.S. into believing that everything would be peaceful during an ongoing US-Iran negotiations, only for Tehran to be caught off guard by a surprise Israeli attack. The U.S., which had been publicly urging Israel to hold off on such an attack as the Trump administration continues talks with Iran on its nuclear program, claimed it was not involved in the attacks.

Even though the U.S. said Israel had acted unilaterally, a military operation of such scale is not possible without the green light from Washington. On Thursday, hours before Israeli hit Iran, Trump said he didn’t think an Israeli attack was imminent, “but it is something that could very well happen.” He also said Washington and Tehran were “fairly close to a pretty good agreement” but that Iran would need to make further compromises.

But on Friday morning, after Israel attacked Iran, President Trump wrote – “I gave Iran a chance to make a deal but they just couldn’t get it done.” He urged the Iranians to reach a deal “before there is nothing left.” As it turned out, the U.S. had begun moving some diplomats and military dependents out of the Middle East days before the “Rising Lion” Operation.

However, even if Trump had disagreed with Israel’s operation, the Jewish state would still execute the plan anyway. That’s because the president’s concerns were skyrocketing oil prices as a result of the Israel-Iran conflict, which could lead to inflation and economic backlash at a time when Trump’s trade war with China isn’t solved yet – problems not of Israel’s concern.

As expected, Tehran was forced to retaliate immediately or risk losing face – even invites discontent – within the circles of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. On the same Friday, Iran launched about 100 surface-to-surface missiles in two waves, most of them were intercepted, but managed to kill 3 and injured at least 34 at populated civilian areas in Israel.

In comparison, Israeli’s attack so far has killed 78 people and wounded more than 320, according to Iranian officials. Israel also attacked the Fordow enrichment plant on Friday, meaning Israel struck the three core sites of Iran’s nuclear program. The Israeli military also had struck two Iranian air force bases (Hamadan and Tabriz air base) – used for missile and drone operations – on Friday.

Despite claiming the U.S. was not involved, the U.S. ground-based air defense systems in the region were nevertheless deployed to shoot down and intercept Iran’s ballistic missiles. While the Israeli strikes garnered some criticism in Congress, many Republicans and Democrats cheered them on. Between Israel and Iran, the choice isn’t hard for Washington.

Obviously, the U.S. strategy is to use Israel’s strikes to pressure Iran to yield to demands that it scale back its nuclear program and stop enriching uranium, while watching Iran being bombarded and helping Israel defends itself, and at the same time warns Tehran that any attack on American interests will force the U.S. to join the military campaign against the Iranian regime.

Iran knew Donald Trump has little appetite for a U.S. military strike on Tehran even before the Israeli’s latest operation. However, the White House also realized that Ayatollah has little interest to surrender its nuclear weapon program, and was just buying time by dragging its feet. Israel seized the opportunity to both decapitate its enemy’s military leadership and target Iran’s key nuclear facilities.

Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Israel might have told Trump that it was going to attack Iran – with or without U.S. approval – and now the U.S. president has to say he supports and knew about the strike, or he will look weak and clueless. Having neutralized Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel shifted its focus to Iran on a revenge mission. It would be a bonus if a regime change could be triggered.

When Trump said repeatedly that he favoured solving the Iran nuclear issue diplomatically rather than militarily, the Mullahs were already trapped. Damn if Tehran agrees to abandon its nuclear program and damn if it disagrees. Even if the Islamic Republic agrees to give up, there’s no guarantee that Israel will not pre-emptively strike. The Mullahs are screwed either way.

From being a sponsor of Hamas and Hezbollah and watched them create chaos in Israel, the table has been turned. The Islamic Republic is now in existential peril, and the Israeli’s attack has exposed deep vulnerabilities in the intelligence services that have kept Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in power for nearly four decades. The Mullahs are paying the price for Hamas terrorism.

Israel Attack Iran - Damaged Cars

Don’t laugh at Netanyahu’s call for the people of Iranian to topple the Ayatollah. The Israeli’s leader knew something that most people don’t. Khamenei faces stark choices – and no good options. Israel has left its military weakened. Not only Iran has insufficient firepower to push back the Jewish state, but any attacks on U.S. interests or personnel will likely draw an American response.
