The days of the starving artist seem to be over. There are so many ways to make money with art lately that there is no reason to struggle financially when you have even just a little bit of artistic talent.

In fact, there are so many ways to make money as an artist that you can even make a passive income through your artwork. The best part is you can make this money from home.

People often fantasize about how to make money while sleeping and the thought that your art could be the ticket may come as a surprise. But, there are so many ways to do this thanks to the internet.

In this article, I will go over several methods you can use to make a passive income with your artwork.

Print on demand

An artist now has many mediums in which they can display it and people are willing to spend money on. For example, t-shirts, posters and even throw pillows are all ways that people would like to show their taste in art.

Now, because of the internet, you no longer have to know how to print these things yourself, or even pay somebody to do it and then ship the items yourself. There is now a service called print on demand and even Amazon has gotten in on the action.

Previously, if you wanted to sell your creations on a shirt, you would have to pay a printer to do it for you and buy a minimum order of shirts. Then you would have to sell them yourself. With POD, an order is placed through a website, then processed by a printing fulfillment center, printed and then shipped. All without you needing to lift a finger. All you have to do is upload the design to the platform.

Of course, this service doesn’t come free, so you only get a royalty off of the sale. But, considering it can earn you money while you are busy creating more art is a wonderful trade off.

Licensing your art

There are many companies that will want to use your artwork for their ad campaigns or even to sell products with your artwork on it. When you create a piece of art, you should register the copyright on it and then you can start reaching out to people or companies that may want to buy the rights to use it.

For instance, if you have a design that you think a certain brand would like for their t-shirts, then you can reach out to them directly and propose an offer for the licensing for use of the image. Brands like The Gap or Hot Topic may be interested in your artistic style for a line of clothing.

Advertising companies are always on the lookout for art to use in their campaigns so this is also a good place to look for clients.

Prints

One of the most potentially lucrative ways to make passive money with art is to offer prints for sale on your own website. This way you really don’t have to do anything. People can download the image from your site and print them themselves according to the size of the image.
