The identity of the three terrorists in the London Bridge and Borough Market attacks have been revealed, as Scotland Yard was under pressure to release the information about the evil butchers. Even if the British authorities want to cover their identities, it would easily backfire. That’s because one of the devils had actually appeared in a TV documentary called “The Jihadist Next Door”.

 

Meet 27-year-old Khuram Shazad Butt, 30-year-old Rachid Redouane and 22-year-old Youssef Zaghba – the radicalized Islamic terrorists who were shot dead in Borough Market after mowing down pedestrians on London Bridge and launching a relentless stabbing attack. Mr. Khuram is believed to be the ringleader of the gang who had killed 7 and injured 48.

Also known as “Abz” or “Abu Zaitun” or “Abu” by his friends and neighbours, Khuram Shazad Butt came to Britain as a child when his parents sought asylum from Pakistan, similar to the Manchester bomber Salman Ramadan Abedi who was also the son of “refugees” who arrived from Libya. With the revelations, Britain security services will have to answer why they didn’t do their jobs.

 

The burning question is – why the terror attack was allowed to happen when it could be stopped in the first place. That’s because Khuram Shazad Butt was the same person who had been on Channel 4 programme in which he was seen displaying an Islamist flag, similar to that of Daesh (ISIS, ISIL) and praying with a group of Muslim men in Regent’s Park.

An online CV shows that Butt obtained an NVQ in business administration in 2009, and a diploma in teaching English to adults in August 2016. The CV lists two jobs – first listed as “assistant for sales and customer service office” since May, 2016 at Transport for London, but his former employer has clarified that he left in October last year after 6 months as a “trainee customer services assistant.”

 

The second job was listed as a “co-ordinator” at a company called Auriga Holdings, which is believed to be a franchise for a local KFC restaurant. Interestingly, a former colleague of Butt who also quit his KFC job about 2 years ago to work on the Tube, said – “Back then he had a reputation for being a bit shady and taking drugs. But all that changed when he became radicalised.”

Butt’s former colleague continued – “He began stopping his neighbours in the street and asking them if they had been saying their prayers and when they had been to the mosque.” He had also tried radicalizing children. Erica Gasparri, an Italian mother of three who was a neighbour, claimed she had reported Mr. Butt to Barking police two years ago.

 

Apparently, Erica was alarmed when the Watford-born father-of-two tried to convert her children to Islam and radicalize them at a local park. She said her two children came home and said – “Mummy, I want to become a Muslim.” After her complaint, the police told her the information had been passed to Scotland Yard. But she had heard nothing more ever since.

Only after jihadist Butt and two of his friends slaughtered 7 people in the London Bridge did anti-terror police raided his flat on King’s Road in Barking. Another woman neighbour said Butt would stare angrily whenever he saw women cycling on the estate. Both Khuram Shazad Butt and Rachid Redouane are from Barking in East London.

 

A keen football fan who was wearing his Arsenal shirt when he and two others went on the rampage at London Bridge, Butt had also been flagged by his former friend who reported him to the anti-terror police on at least two occasions. The former friend of the terrorist claimed he had been radicalized while watching YouTube videos.

He told the BBC’s Asian Network that his former friend (Khuram Shazad Butt) had been radicalised watching videos of the infamous American hate preacher Ahmad Musa Jibril. He said – “I phoned the anti-terror hotline. I spoke to the gentleman. I told him about our conversation and why I think he was radicalised.” Unfortunately, the British authorities had done nothing.

 

Khuram Shazad Butt was last month spotted urging people in east London not to participate in the General Election, as reported by The Guardians. In 2015, he was thrown out of his mosque – Jabir Bin Zayid Islamic Centre – for ranting that voting in an election was “un-Islamic”. His wife, who was of Pakistani origin, had just given birth to their second child.

 

Born in July 1986, second terrorist Rachid Redouane, meanwhile, was a pastry chef who also used another alias – Rachid Elkhdar. Claiming himself to be Moroccan and Libyan, Redouane has different date of birth which made him five years younger. According to sources, an Irish ID card was found on Redouane’s body.

 

Reports indicate that Rachid Redouane was married to Charisse O’Leary, a 38-year-old from Ireland with whom he had a 17-month-old daughter. However, security sources in Ireland have said the terrorist married a Scottish woman in Dublin in 2012 and lived in Rathmines, Dublin, for 18 months between 2014 and 2016.

After his wedding, Redouane left Ireland and may have travelled to Morocco before settling in the UK. He then returned to Ireland again in 2015, but for an unknown length of time. Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny conveniently said he was not one of a small number of radicals under surveillance, although an Irish security source described the killer as having “extensive immigration history related to the UK”.

 

Like Rachid Redouane, third terrorist Youssef Zaghba was “not a police or MI5 subject of interest”, at least that was what the UK police claims. Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reports that Zaghba was born in Fez in 1995 to a Moroccan mother and Italian father. His parents lived together for a period in Morocco and when they separated, his mother returned to Italy.

In March 2016, Zaghba was stopped at Bologna airport on his way to catch a flight to Turkey. He was carrying just a backpack and a one way ticket to Istanbul at the time and authorities believe he was on his way to Syria. Subsequently, he was charged with international terrorism but subsequently acquitted. However, he remained on a list of “persons at risk”.

 

Scotland Yard confirmed Butt was known to police and British Intelligence MI5 – but claimed there was no intelligence to suggest an attack was being planned. That’s a nice way to say the security forces can only close the stable door after the horse has bolted. To lock the barn door before the horse gallops away is against human rights and an act of racism.

Still, the British security services must answer why a person who had been on Channel 4 programme was able to go on to carry out an attack. The screw-up was so glaring that even Secretary of State Boris Johnson couldn’t defend his boys and has asked MI5 and police to provide the necessary answers.

 

It is believed Redouane, the second attacker, used Irish jurisdiction to get a European Union permit which allowed him to be in the UK. On the other hand, Italian Intelligence had told both British and Moroccan security services about third attacker Youssef Zaghba’s “frequent trips” to war-torn country. Despite that, he was able to enter Britain with ease.

Has the British Intelligence MI5 and counter-terrorism sleeping on the job? They keep saying there was no intelligence to suggest an attack was being planned. What type of intelligence do they need when Mr. Butt had already appeared on TV show demonstrating his radicalization? Mr. Butt even had access to tunnels under the Houses of Parliament while working at Westminster station.

 

The Times, adding salt into injury, revealed that Butt was linked to 7 July, 2005 London bombings, suggesting that the terrorist had a long history of terrorism. Butt was reportedly had worked for a man accused of helping to train the 7/7 bombing ringleader. If British authorities couldn’t care less about suspects of such profile, imagine those not on their radar.
