PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. PageRank is Google’s (Nasdaq: GOOG, stock) way of deciding a page’s importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determine a page’s ranking in the search results. Being the product of Google, the giant search engine was criticized for bragging and artificially awards itself with the full score, PageRank of 10, the highest ranking in the system.
Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO, stock), it’s competitor was rewarded with lower ranking, painting an impression Google is much more superior than Yahoo (though Yahoo didn’t give it a care). Amongst other full-scorers are Adobe System Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE, stock) and Macromedia.
But after the recent re-evaluation, Yahoo has joined in the round-table of the top-scorer with the new PageRank of perfect 10. It doesn’t affect the way Yahoo’s doing business and its’ revenue nor its’ stock price though. Yahoo itself is already one of the top two giant in the search and advertising business. If only its’ Panama project can give Google’s Adsense a run for the money, maybe Google will not be so arrogant in the online advertising business.
